The news hit, and most couldn't believe it – Prince died. His music has meant so much to generations. He was unique, revolutionary, talented and he oozed sex appeal. He was musical royalty swathed in purple, and many of us recognize his hits as the anthems of our generation. Purple Rain, Little Red Corvette, When Doves Cry, Let's Go Crazy and 1999 are just a few. While we continue to mourn him, a piece of his Toronto past has surfaced – the Bridle Path home Prince owned has hit the market.

Prince made his home in Toronto from 2001 to 2006, and the city loved being able to lay claim to the superstar citizen. Though his stay was brief, the legend lives on in this glamourous and expansive space, which can be yours for $12,788,000. Set on two acres, the gated estate has everything a rockstar could want – tennis court, swimming pool with heated cabana, manicured grounds, games room, media room, home theatre, hair salon (yes, a salon), fitness facility with sauna – and the list goes on. The 14,280-sq.-ft. bungalow has cathedral ceilings and no end to the elegance, where grand spaces for entertaining were likely put to good use.

Did Prince write Musicology here? Or Xpectation or N.E.W.S.? If you have the almost $13-million price tag on hand, you can share in the space of creative genius. He had to have written and been inspired in this Bridle Path home, as Prince was a voracious writing force that produced albums almost annually and also wrote hits for others. In fact, I think we can expect a huge library of his unreleased hits in the coming years.

If you need a few necessities in your home, besides the pedigree of rockstar status and gold records, this home is exceptional in that regard too. The swimming pool is notable for having won awards. The chef-inspired kitchen by renowned Downsview Kitchens is bathed in sunshine with a large skylight and boasts ample cabinetry and built-ins, with marble countertops. There are numerous walk-outs, floor-to-ceiling windows to enjoy the tranquil setting, fireplaces, exceptionally crafted flooring, a serene, spa-like ensuite, a walk-in closet dressing-room-of-your-dreams, and some purple carpet still in place in the loft that can only be explained by the presence of 'His Purpleness.'

Forest Hill Real Estate Oakville has this six-bedroom, 10-bathroom estate listed for sale. While the current owners may or may not have changed much of the decor in the past decade, it's the home Prince owned while he lived in Toronto, and with his passing, it's a landmark residence that will endure as a piece of Toronto's heritage and claim to his fame.
