Community as unique as the homeowner

An essential part of searching for a new home is taking into consideration the neighbourhood and community you will be joining. Look for a community that fits both your lifestyle and life stage. Are you looking for a downtown, urban vibe? A close-to-town location that blends the aspects of both city and suburban life? A laid-back, out-in-the-country setting? There’s no “right or wrong” community, just the one that’s right for you. Ask yourself:

Whom Does This Community Appeal To?

Ask the builder to describe the community and the homeowners it’s designed for. Some communities can be aimed at mature adults, families or young adults. Analyze what your needs are and where you’ll be in five or 10 years. Are there good schools in the neighbourhood for when you begin having a family? Will this neighbourhood continue to offer you peace and quiet during retirement?

What Community Amenities are Planned?

Builders put a great deal of effort into planning a community that will work well for the intended homeowners. Communities can offer a wide range of amenities, from health clubs, bike paths and walking trails to daycares, grocery stores and community centres. Some communities even include entertainment such as pools, basketball courts, bowling alleys and party rooms. Look for a community that is right for your interests.

On March 1, the Greater Vancouver Home Builders’ Association announced finalists for the 2018 Ovation Awards. The Ovation Awards recognize excellence in new-home construction, renovation and design in Metro Vancouver, and is an important industry-driven program that connects consumers with local businesses that are committed to creating world-class and reputable housing in our region. This year, many single and multi-family developers were recognized for their work, such as:

  • Platinum Group of Companies for “Albion Station”, finalist for Best Landscaping Single or Multi Family
  • Adera Development Corporation for “Greenway at South Ridge Club”, finalist for Best New Outdoor Living Space single or multi-family
  • Boffo Development for “Modello” with Chris Dikeakos Architects, finalist for Best Multi-Family Highrise Development

All three finalists offer different communities that appeal to different needs: a rustic country setting, a suburban lifestyle with lots to do, and an urban retreat in Burnaby, respectively – proof that a community is as unique as the homeowner who lives there.
