East United: A fresh face for the historic east end

Inspired by an aversion to conformity and the diversity of Toronto's vibrant east end, a new condo is coming to the corner of Berkeley and King. And with a name like "East United," the clear objective was to create a cohesive vision merging the distinct character of the surrounding neighbourhoods.

Surrounded by the colourful St. Lawrence Market, the historic Distillery District and the fashion-forward King East Design District, East United is under development by SigNature Communities, Berkshire Axis Development and Andiel Homes. The building will include retail and office space, 279 residential units, and six two-storey townhomes located along the pedestrian mews on the south end of the building, which will connect Parliament and Berkeley.

East United was designed to reflect the area's heritage allowing it to seamlessly integrate into the surrounding neighbourhood; the five-storey podium is emblematic of the industrial buildings to the south, and rising from it is a sleek 21-storey glass tower.

According to Sebastian Mizzi, vice-president of SigNature Communities, “Every last detail in this project has been inspired by the east end. From the design, to the amenities, to the conscious way we build, it’s all about delivering a new level of excellence to our favorite side of the city.” In terms of aesthetics, the suites mirror Toronto's very best east-end neighbourhoods. Buyers can choose between a rustic, earth-toned look that is symbolic of the Distillery District, the sleek, more minimalist look of the Design District, or they can go for a quirky look reflective of the St. Lawrence Market. Those who enjoy different aspects of all these neighbourhoods, can mix and match to create a suite that is perfectly suited to their tastes.

The building also features some impressive amenities including a yoga lounge, private dining room and event space connected with a jam room. The building also boasts a rooftop patio that includes lounge seating, fire pits and an outdoor theatre.

There is a ton of development taking place east of Yonge, such as the revitalization of the West Donlands as well as the East Bayfront Area. And East United is one more reason to love Toronto's east end. The building is scheduled to open spring 2015. Register now to get up-to-date information on East United.
