Presented by the Greater Vancouver Home Builders’ Association, the GVHBA's Parade of Renovated and Custom Homes, recently relaunched to include custom homes, will showcase an exclusive collection of 16 professionally renovated and custom-built homes in Metro Vancouver on Sunday, June 12, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

A unique opportunity to view the latest custom home and renovation design trends and the science behind building, this annual one day event offers consumers both inspiration and education with glimpses into award-winning projects.

“We felt including custom homes better reflected Vancouver’s current housing market and the work of our members,” said Bob de Wit, CEO, GVHBA. “Whereas a few years ago renovators were commonly quoting on smaller scale projects, today, homeowners sitting on new found real estate wealth are looking at complete home renovations, and custom built homes.”

Some parade highlights include a steel and glass staircase connecting 6,000 sq. ft. over three levels of a stunning whole home renovation; a 20-foot Eclipse and Tilt-and-Slide door bringing outdoor living into the kitchen; an artisan-inspired designer’s home in New Westminster, and a 900 sq. ft. two bedroom and den laneway home, plus a Built Green custom home, both in Vancouver.

Also included on the Parade are four projects in progress, providing a unique opportunity to look past the designer wow factors and into the science behind the building.

“Renovation and custom home building is as much a science today as it is about craftsmanship and design,” said de Wit. “All the comfort we have come to expect from our homes is supported by building science. I encourage anyone considering a home renovation or custom home build to take this opportunity to meet the builders and see first-hand what goes into a project. Our Parade is as educational as it is inspirational, and I am confident consumers will be just as wowed by what is behind the walls as the state-of-the-art design finishing.”

Projects in progress include a 7,000 sq. ft. custom home with indoor lap pool, and fully self-contained in-law suite; a 6000 sq. ft. whole home renovation just at the beginning of the finishing stages, with dugout basement for a home theater, wine cellar; and bar; a Tuscan-style custom villa featuring organic wood and stone, massive exposed beams and high ceilings, arched doorways and vintage cellars; plus a certified Built Green and EnerGuide single-family home.

Bring the family and join the parade. The first-hand advice you’ll get from the on-site renovation, build and design experts is not readily found on the internet.

Admission is by passport, available at each home for $10 per person. Children 17 and under are free. Passports can be purchased at any home, and then used for entry to the remaining homes. A portion of the proceeds from passport sales will help fund the purchase of tools, building materials and safety gear for a carpentry training program offered by Guildford Park and Frank Hurt secondary schools in Surrey.

Viewing time is limited to six hours so make sure to plan your personal parade. Before heading out, go to www.gvhba.org for Parade map, photos and location details.
