Luxury condos expand west to Grimsby

Prospective buyers of luxury condos can now look beyond the financial district and Yorkville areas of downtown Toronto, and other select GTA locales, and further west to the Hamilton area. Homes by DeSantis is bringing luxury lakeshore living to Grimsby with the release of a new midrise condominium community – AquaBlu – scheduled to launch in May.

“People want to live at the lake, they want luxury and easy access to major centres all at an affordable price,” says Homes by DeSantis President Gabriel DeSantis. This development fits the bill, with 120 condominium residences and four townhomes, starting from $189,900, a cost well-suited for first-time homebuyers.

Architectural firm KNY Architects, designer of several award-winning condos in the GTA, will design AquaBlu to have an abundance of glass to capitalize on its setting along the shores of Lake Ontario, including floor-to-ceiling glass windows. Modeled after boutique hotels in South Beach Miami, the interior will be crafted by Tomas Pearce Interior Design Consulting of Toronto. Their mark will be seen in each suite, but also the building amenity areas, including a sprawling sky lounge terrace, a two-storey lobby, fitness and yoga centre, the club room and a games room. Enhancing all of this will be a custom sculpture located in the roundabout in front of the lobby entrance.

To ensure a unique design for this public art, Homes by DeSantis will be running a competition open to artists throughout the GTA and Niagara region.

Such luxury condos are expected to be a new landmark in Grimsby, a town which is undergoing a renaissance of its own. Downtown Grimsby is alive with its summer farmer’s market, a beautiful historic landscape, ample recreation opportunities and a wide selection of shopping and dining.

To complement these attractions, the Town has committed almost $5 million to create a waterfront trail system with wandering promenades, passage to newly constructed beaches and outdoor pavilion spaces. This new waterfront plan is occurring adjacent to AquaBlu, with trail entrances mere steps off the property.

“The popularity of Grimsby as a place for new development and investment in recent years is demonstrating what long-time residents have known all along, that Grimsby is a wonderful place to live, raise a family, work, play and visit," says Mayor Bob Bentley. "With beautiful natural landscapes and a well-planned, vibrant and friendly by nature community, Grimsby is welcoming to all who wish to take advantage of its many amenities.”

A short distance away is the picturesque Fifty Point Marina and Niagara Wine Country. For those working in Hamilton and the GTA, access to the QEW is less than a minute away at the Casablanca exit. GO Transit, which serves the area with a GO Bus pickup at Casablanca and South Service Road, reports that this location is poised to be part of its Niagara expansion plan for GO Train service.

The Hamilton area real estate market continues to be a strong performer – recording 5.1-per-cent average price growth, compared to 3.6 per cent for Ontario. Such promise, Homes by DeSantis says, means AquaBlu luxury condos are not just a wise choice for homebuyers, but also a smart buy for investors.
