An enthusiastic crowd tipped their hats to Medallion Corporation’s first Vision tower recently at a topping off ceremony celebrating big changes coming to Downtown Ajax. Mayor Steve Parish, Ajax Council and Medallion executives made history by launching the new landmark development by “signing off” directly on the foundational wall. The momentous occasion was celebrated with a larger-than-life top hat cake and drum line performance by The Hitmen.

A first-of-its-kind project for the Durham region, the dynamic mixed-use development will feature a rental apartment tower adjacent to Pat Bayly Square. Designed by Page & Steele/IBI Group, the building and square complement each other and will seamlessly integrate into the surrounding area. The convenient location also provides future residents direct access to the new civic center, a planned venue for cultural celebrations and a public skating rink.

“Support from the surrounding community and the Ajax Council has been astounding,” said Aaron Bleeman, Project Manager for Medallion. “This topping off of our first building brings us one step closer to realizing Ajax’s ambitions for its evolving downtown.”

Oakville-based Lukas Design Interiors created thoughtful spaces and suites that support the evolving urban lifestyle of Vision’s future residents. Additional building amenities like the theatre room, private dining room, games room, fitness room and outdoor roof top terrace create convenient spaces and dedicated areas to socialize with neighbours.

“This unprecedented development will act as the gateway to Downtown Ajax. Our vision of an urban, pedestrian-oriented, mixed-use vibrant downtown will soon be a reality,” said Mayor Parish. “This collaborative project has been years in the making, and today’s topping ceremony is a celebration of that successful partnership.”

At the corner of Harwood Ave. and Bayly St., Vision’s the first building in this multi-phase project stands 25 storeys tall and will house 272 residential units. Ranging from one- to three-bedroom suites, Vision will draw in families as well as singles, professionals and empty nesters to downtown Ajax. In addition to residential, the project will also host retail and office space, bringing vibrant commercial opportunity to the downtown.
