Need a place to crash during TIFF?

It's that time of year; the curtains are closing on summer and taking its place on centre stage is September's most anticipated event, The Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). From Sept. 10 to Sept. 20, the event screens 300-plus movies from more than 60 countries, and attracts various people from around the globe – actors, directors, film fanatics, and of course, celebrity-obsessed individuals hoping to get a glimpse of their favourite star.

These attendees come from different backgrounds and demographics, and each have their own budget to consider – some tighter than others. To help the various types of TIFF movie-goers out a bit, we thought we'd identify their best options for their short-term stay in downtown Toronto. Here are the best places to crash during TIFF.

Big-time actor: Johnny Depp

Johnny Depp is among TIFF's long list of big-time celebrities. Quirky, creative, and highly successful, Depp will undoubtedly stay in one of the finest spots in Toronto. Depp, who has a taste for internationally inspired real estate (take, for example, his recently listed french village), will probably enjoy the Asian-themed Shangri-La suite, or this two-bedroom plus den going for $7,750 on Kijiji. The Shangri-La also has a slew of private residences fit for the stars, some listed for a cool $3.1 million.

Indie film director: Sebastian Schipper

TIFF also brings in directors from countries around the world, like German director Sebastian Schipper. Schipper will be visiting to preview his anticipated film, "Victoria." Having filmed the movie in one shot, it has also been dubbed "the one-shot wonder." Our pick for Schipper is this modern and artistic penthouse loft with an incredible view, going for $489 a night on Airbnb.

Struggling film student

The struggling film student will stop at nothing to preview the movies screening at TIFF. Their budget is extremely tight and they will essentially take what they can get. Instead of a cheap hotel, or even an affordable unit, we figured we'd tap into the ever-increasing trend of couch-surfing. Located in the Fashion District, this student will be a short walk away from the flashing lights at TIFF. The best part is that they get to crash in the heart of downtown for only $36 a night.

Middle-aged film buff

The middle-aged film aficionado has a little more money to burn than some of the other festival attendees. The festival is a high priority for those who fall under this category, but unlike the struggling film student, they consider comfort a necessity. Our pick for this film buff is a condo suite at One King West, where they can be just minutes away from all the TIFF action. However, it will set them back $500 daily.

Celebrity-crazed fans

Some people are less passionate about the films and more interested in the actors who play in them. These celebrity-crazed individuals can bring their friends and crash in this home located in the trendy Kensington Market, which is on Airbnb for $140 a night.
