Well known for its quality craftsmanship in its single-family homes, Shane Homes hit the mark with its first multi-family project, winning several industry awards including its first Multi-Family Builder of the Year.

The very best from the home building industry in the Calgary region were honoured recently with the presentation of awards from design to marketing at the BILD Calgary Region Awards Gala.

A total of 700 entries were submitted this year by members competing for 58 awards in 11 different categories. And Shane Homes Multi-Family was a finalist for seven awards and winner of three, on its way to earning the 2017 Grand BILD Award for Multi-Family Builder of the Year.

“It was overwhelming to win… I looked over at Shane (Wenzel, president of Shane Homes Group of Companies) when it was announced I said ‘Wow,’ I couldn’t believe we won this prestigious award upon our first time entering the multi-family division, especially with the competition being so great,” says Kevin Taylor, general manager Shane Multi-Family. “It’s quite an honour just to be a finalist, but to win… that’s incredible. Our area manager for The Mark 101 Dianne Bidinost was quite surprised and also ecstatic we won. It’s also satisfying to have our team recognized for their hard work and dedication.”

Shane Homes started the multi-family division in 2014 after purchasing land in Sage Hill. Its first project was The Mark 101, which won three design awards: Best New Multi-Family Design 750 to 899 sq. ft. for its A1-B floorplan; Best New Multi-Family Design 900 to 1,149 sq. ft. for A2A-B floorplan; and Best Apartment Style Condo – Up to One Bedroom Plus Den ABC Part 3 for Suite 1102, B2B floorplan.

“We have been building duplexes and street towns through our single-family division for years, so it was a natural progression to start the multi-family division for our apartment style condos,” Taylor says, whose experience with construction and customer service meshed well with Shane Homes’ philosophy “of putting customers first and always following through on promises. We take pride in having a reputation for honesty, integrity and quality.

“We like to say that we don’t follow trends, rather we listen to our customers and take their feedback forward to our team,” he adds. “We pay attention to key details, for example, at The Mark 101 we designed the kitchens based on the feedback we received from downsizers that said they didn’t want to be seatedon a stool at the island, so we designed our island with a drop down end creating a built-in table.

“We strive to ensure our condos are thoughtfully designed to create the most functional space possible so our customers can live comfortably. We also offer storage both in the suite and parking area for customers,” Taylor says.

The award-winning designs have proved popular with buyers as Building 1 for Mark 101 is 99 per cent sold and occupied, Building 2 is 40 per cent sold with possessions starting in October, and construction on the final building is starting this summer.
