Top trends to watch for in your new condo

New condo developments in 2017 will showcase exciting architectural and design elements for the home. We are getting inspiration from some of Greater Vancouver’s designer display suites. Here’s a look at three top trends that have caught our attention:

Spa-inspired ensuites

Spa-inspired ensuites have been on our radar for quite some time, but we continue to see more and more features become standard across the market. Contemporary master ensuites now feature in-floor heating, frameless glass showers with tiled shower bases, and towel warmers. The high-end bath at Calla at The Gardens by Townline Homes offers practical features including custom-designed mirrored medicine cabinets, heated floors and full-height porcelain tile walls as the backdrop. (Pictured above: The Calla at The Gardens in Richmond features a beautiful spa-inspired ensuite)

Some of the city’s more spacious floor plans include beautifully designed ensuites that come with dual sinks, and a mix of open and closed storage providing more personal space. A stand-alone soaker bathtub inspires deep relaxation at the new luxury residences, Hawthorne by Pennyfarthing Homes.

Lighting function

Looking around you’ll see great lighting trends. Take notice of the fixtures in each room and how the lighting works with the space, colour scheme and furniture. The quality of light is important for any space, from its function to setting the mood. The Kirkland luxury homes in Kerrisdale feature modern and elegant fixtures in the bathroom, and thoughtfully placed vanity lighting solutions for your beauty routine. Like The Kirkland, expect to see more thoughtful lighting options in homes.

Well-planned kitchens

The kitchen, also known as the heart of the home, is also a high-traffic room that requires a well-planned layout. Kitchen design experts are optimizing appliance position to help with efficiency and effectiveness of the space for cooking and daily activities. The remarkable CresseyKitchen at McKinnon in Kerrisdale incorporates a “chef’s wall” in the kitchen to keep state-of-the-art appliances at eye level and within easy reach while maximizing storage and counterspace.

When you visit a presentation centre, walk through the display suites and ask the sales representative about the key design elements to get a better sense of the home and features that cater to your needs.
