If there’s one thing that Winnipeg might not be so well known for, it’s… drumroll please… farmers’ markets – with at least a dozen of them across the city. Forget the hassle of trekking to the grocery store when you can quickly pick up fresh produce at one of the local markets. It’s a great way to buy locally grown food while supporting the province’s farmers. Here are the top five farmers’ markets found in Winnipeg.
  1. St. Norbet Farmers’ Market: The St. Norbet Farmers’ Market is the province’s largest and most popular, showcasing more than 100 vendors every week. During the summer, hundreds of residents gather together to check out the local goodies – from handmade crafts to fresh produce and unique giftware.
  1. Pineridge Hollow Farmers’ Market: Nestled on seven acres of greenspace, the Pineridge Hollow Farmers’ Market provides the ultimate escape from the hustle and bustle of city living, while shopping for local products. You’ll find delicious homemade jams and pastas, accent furniture pieces and the freshest fruits and veggies. Plus, while you shop, you can enjoy free entertainment from local buskers.
  1. Wolseley Farmers’ Market: Open every Tuesday and Thursday from June to October, this market has fun written all over it. Along with buying local merchandise, you can take up one of the many workshops offered by community members. From teaching you all the ins and outs of a DIY project to art lessons and face painting, it’s a great way to meet new friends and learn another skill or two.WInnipeg's_Farmers'_Market_insert
  1. Piazza De Nardi Farmers’ Market: The Piazza De Nardi Farmers’ Market is a yearlong affair, serving locals every day of the week. It’s practically a fully loaded grocery store, boasting an array of departments, including specialty wines as well as dairy and meat sections. Be sure to treat yourself to some gelato or espresso at the indoor cafe and gelateria – you won’t be disappointed!
  1. West Kildonan Farmers' Market: Soak up some summertime sunshine at Winnipeg’s outdoor farmers’ market (but don’t forget to wear sunscreen!) Operating every Saturday from mid-July to September, The West Kildonan’s Market offers an abundance of one-of-a-kind products from small businesses and vendors, including farmers, bakers and talented crafters.
