Regina

Introduction

Located in northwest Regina, the Argyle Park–Englewood neighbourhood is a growing family-friendly suburb community with parks, schools, and a small amount of commercial activity. It is bordered by the city limits to the north, the Ring Road to the south, Albert Street to the east, and Pasqua Street to the west. Argyle Park, Englewood, and – most recently – Hawkstone are located within its boundaries.

Lifestyle

Residents of this close-knit community enjoy an active lifestyle with a number of parks and outdoor activities available to them. The area's many families make good use of the walking paths, outdoor skating rink, and playground provided by Sangster Park and Stan Oxelgren Park, as well as indoor activities arranged by the Argyle Park Community Centre.

The Vibe

A suburban community in northwest Regina, Argyle Park-Englewood has a family-friendly feel. As development continues in the area, more retail and industry are expected to merge with the residential environment, providing locals with increased services, shopping, and dining closer to home. While this small neighbourhood is set to expand, an active community association and large family demographic will help it retain its vibrant community spirit.

Meet the Neighbours

Argyle Park-Englewood was home to 3,790 residents as of the 2011 census, though that number is set to grow with the completion of the Hawkstone subdivision. The area is home to all age groups and is particularly popular with families. 50 percent of households consist of three or more people. Half of the residents of legal age are married, and a quarter of families here are headed by a single-parent.

In the Area

Sangster Park and Stan Oxelgren Park link the community through a connected walking path. You can enjoy the play structure or outdoor rink, or just take in the fresh air from a park bench. If you prefer to play indoors, Argyle Park Community Centre offers a variety of recreational opportunities. There are two elementary schools here and the Galaxy Cinemas theatre complex is just a short drive away.

Planes, Trains & Automobiles

With major roadways Albert Street, the Ring Road, and Pasqua Street bordering the area, residents enjoy quick and convenient connections to the rest of Regina. As is common in suburbs, the majority of people in Argyle Park-Englewood rely on their vehicle to get around, with only 120 people identifying public transit as their primary form of transport in the 2011 census. The Regina International Airport is a 14-minute drive away.

The Good, the Bad & the Rest

Regina's population boom is challenging. While residential Argyle Park-Englewood consists primarily of detached houses, plans to expand with the new Hawkstone community will diversify the area. A modern neighbourhood with affordable low-, medium-, and high-density housing, an industrial area, and green space, Hawkstone will add approximately 535 single family homes, 1,350 multi-family units, and new commercial development to the neighbourhood. It's expected to accommodate an estimated 4,500 residents.

Dollars & Sense

According to the 2011 Statistics Canada census, the average pre-tax household income in this neighbourhood was a comfortable $80,221. There is currently a small amount of commercial activity within the area, including affordable family dining options like Houston Pizza and O.B. Kitchen. The development of the Hawkstone neighbourhood is expected to bring with it additional retail and industrial opportunities.
