Riverdale East and West is located next to the Redhill Valley Parkway, then runs down Queenston Road to Gray Road and Barton Street East. The neighbourhood is also located next to Stoney Creek in Hamilton’s lower east end. Residents have easy access to greenspaces and entertainment, and an array of housing options.

Living in Riverdale, you’ll have access to just about everything you need in a neighbourhood. Riverdale isn't necessarily the most popular or sought-after area, however this can work in residents' favour — the streets aren’t packed with a lot of people, there are lots of recreational spaces and entertainment, and you can still find homes at affordable prices.

Riverdale is home to Hamilton’s largest proportion of immigrants, and is a very multicultural neighbourhood with a wide variety of restaurants and discount shopping. Residents in Riverdale East and West have come and gone over the years, but the area has not yet been gentrified. Because of this, it tends to attract some lower-income residents. However, seniors and families still reside in the area, which offers a good variety in terms of population demographics.

From buffet restaurants to large fast food chains and everywhere in between, Riverdale is a very food-centric neighbourhood that focuses on good value at a low cost. There are also discount food stores, including a Bulk Barn in one of the many shopping plazas. Having cost efficient options such as this make it ideal for those with lower incomes.

Planes, Trains & Automobiles

There are plenty of buses available in this neighbourhood, with most concentrated at Eastgate Mall and departing for various other neighbourhoods in Hamilton. Having a car is essential for running errands, but you can walk to the plaza malls if needed. The Hamilton Go Centre is an option if you want to get out of the city.

The Good, the Bad & the Rest

Some might find the low-income pockets of this neighbourhood to be a bit off-putting. However, residents here enjoy the long lasting sense of community and the mature greenspaces that the area offers. You will find some new builds copping up in Riverdale, which could result in increased property values over time.

Dollars & Sense

Riverdale is a very affordable and resource-rich neighbourhood. Bungalows and older townhomes dominate and are conveniently located near Eastgate Mall, a hub of social activity and also home to a strip of restaurants ranging in price. It’s easier to build savings when entertainment in the area isn’t as pricey as other neighbourhoods.

Eastgate Square

This is the main shopping mall in the central east area of Hamilton, with bargain shopping, renovated stores and more. You’re sure to find something for everyone on your shopping list.

Bowlerama

This has been a neighbourhood staple for over a decade, with birthday parties and weekend outings taking place on a regular basis. Be sure to bring the whole family for your next visit.

Green Acres Park

This outdoor pool and park also offers a wading pool and splash pad, making it a destination spot in the summer. The pool is available from the end of June to the start of September.

Fifty’s Diner

Located just on the boundary of Riverdale, this is a restaurant and event space that is a mainstay in the community on King St. Comfort food and throwback music make it a great family diner.

Cardinal Newman Catholic School

The main high school in the general area, Cardinal Newman is located in the heart of the east end. It's been rated by the Fraser Institute as the top secondary school in Greater Hamilton.
