NEIGHBOURHOOD

Forest Grove

Saskatoon

Introduction

Forest Grove is a family-oriented neighbourhood nestled between Erindale and Silverspring on Saskatoon’s east side. Its west end stretches along Central Avenue while the south border meets Grey Avenue. This quiet residential area features elementary and high schools, as well as many beautiful parks and green spaces. Forest Grove’s excellent location provides the perfect blend of quiet coziness and convenient proximity to commercial areas.

Lifestyle

Forest Grove has the tree-lined streets that the name suggests. It is common to see couples and families pushing strollers or walking dogs through the neighbourhood. While the community is primarily residential, there are some nice cafés and restaurants, and there is a wide variety of options for eating out and shopping located a few minutes’ walk down Central Avenue or across Forest Park at University Heights Square.

The Vibe

Forest Grove was developed in the '70s and '80s near the city’s perimeter, but has since been surrounded by Erindale, Willowgrove, Silverspring, and Arbor Creek. It’s perfect for families who enjoy going to the park to play baseball or tennis, or to enjoy other summer activities. The area feels extremely safe and events at the Forestry Farm Park and Zoo and Forest Grove Church provide a strong feeling of community.

Meet the Neighbours

In this middle-class community, you will find young couples looking to start a home as well families who have occupied the area for decades. Because this neighbourhood is older than the surrounding under-construction areas like Willowgrove and Evergreen, properties here are more affordable for new families. Forest Grove is perfect for raising children, which is obvious when you see the lively parks and playgrounds filled with families.

In the Area

Forest Grove and St. Volodymyr are the neighbourhood’s elementary schools, while Centennial Collegiate and St. Joseph are the high schools. Forest Park offers baseball diamonds, tennis courts, and basketball courts as well as the entrance to one of the city’s best attractions: the Forestry Farm Park and Zoo. Near the park you can find the Alice Turner Library and the SaskTel Sports Centre with turf soccer fields.

Planes, Trains & Automobiles

This neighbourhood offers a balance between a quiet residential feel and close proximity to major shopping areas like Preston Crossing and University Heights. While Forest Grove is best accessed by car, several bus lines offer residents a convenient option for getting to the university or city centre. Circle Drive, Saskatoon’s primary freeway, is also located nearby allowing for quick access to anywhere in the city.

The Good, the Bad & the Rest

Forest Grove is a very quiet neighbourhood without much commercial development. This might make it a bad choice for young adults seeking a lively urban community, but it is perfect for those looking to settle down. While lacking the feeling of an urban centre, the area does feature some commercial essentials like a coffee shop, confectionary, veterinary clinic, and hair salon. Everything else is a short drive away.

Dollars & Sense

While Forest Grove is mostly filled with detached homes, some apartments are available. It is a middle-income neighbourhood that has the feel of a more expensive suburb. The neighbourhood’s age makes it slightly less expensive than the surrounding areas, and because it is a developed area, there is not much construction. Prices for goods in the surrounding commercial areas are on par with the rest of the city.
