NEIGHBOURHOOD

Yorkville

Toronto

Introduction

Yorkville is one of Toronto's most upscale neighbourhoods and at this point, it's name is synonymous with the luxe life. Once the epicentre of Toronto's hippie community, the neighbourhood has come a long way from it's grass roots beginnings. From Bloor to Davenport and Yonge to Avenue Rd., the neighbourhood has taken on the nickname "The Mink Mile." (Photo credit: Sonia Bell)

Lifestyle

Living in Yorkville is an utterly convenient option, with everything at your disposal. In the heart of the city, it's easy to access all of Toronto – especially since both the Bloor/Danforth line and the Yonge/University subway line service residents. The area is very well maintained and, with a big park in the centre, provides a lovely setting in a bustling busy centre.

The Vibe

In the Yorkville neighbourhood, elegance and style are key. Restaurants and stores cater to wealth and meet the demand for luxury brands. This neighbourhood is located in the heart of the city and because of this it's a very active community, where the line between business and social is blurred.

Meet the Neighbours

Yorkville's crowd is a mix of ages. There is a huge population of residents who have been there for decades and also an influx of downsizes moving into the newer condos in the area. There are young professionals, fashionistas, entrepreneurs and upscale designers and artists – and often a celebrity sighting or two!

In the Area

If you're on a budget you can hunt out a bargain, but the neighbourhood just doesn't cater to the budget-conscious consumer. Über-luxury brands like Louis Vuiton, Prada and Tiffany & Co. as well as spas, salons and other services cater to a demanding group that values results over expense. The area is also extremely busy as it's a popular destination for shoppers, tourists and hopefuls.

Planes, Trains & Automobiles

The area is bound by main arteries and has an express bus that arrives from mid-town on Avenue Rd. Being situated so close to Bloor and Yonge street, getting to and from this neighbourhood is a breeze. The Subway is a focal point of transit though there are other bus routes along the northern boundary.

The Good, the Bad & the Rest

At the heart of the city, Yorkville is on the subways line, with Yonge Station at its east boundary , Bay in the Middle and University on its west boundary. The Metro Reference Library, major hotels, and the Royal Ontario Museum as well as the Manulife Centre and U of T's Varsity Stadium, are all part of this community.

Dollars & Sense

There is a lot of traffic in this neighbourhood - a lot to do with its location as well as its popularity. Street parking is tricky as cars are quickly towed during rush hour and parking lots can be quite pricey. Further complicating things for drivers, the one-way streets and no-left-turns makes it hard to navigate the community for those who don't have familiarity with the area.
