You can wait to catch celebrity designer Lisa Rogers on Cityline on Citytv, where she appears as a regular guest expert with host Tracy Moore, or you can contract her for a private consultation. But here, YPNextHome presents two minutes with her – two minutes filled with smart, practical tips for designing and decorating your new home.

So, have a seat, grab a pen and take some notes.

(Spoiler alert: the video is actually 2.5 minutes, but it’s worth it).

Rogers was appearing at a recent event presented by Dunpar Homes, the Etobicoke-based builder and developer of luxury townhomes in the GTA for which she is the exclusive designer, at its new Design Studio. Past and new purchasers reviewed samples of luxurious hardwood flooring, marble and granite countertops and elegant finishes.

“Moving into a new home is always an overwhelming time, but it doesn’t have to be,” says Rogers. “I always recommend that new homeowners focus first on the design foundations of their home, from the hardwood flooring to the tiles, countertops and carpeting. These are going to lay the design foundation and from here you can add all those punches of colour and texture to make your home your unique place.”

“Whether you’re moving into a new home or need a decorating refresh where you’re living now, people don’t often realize that less is more,” she says. “Look for a few key statement pieces rather than a whole collection; and don’t be afraid to mix textures like wood, metal and glass.”

“We’re thrilled to see the response from our past and recent purchasers,” says John Zanini, president of Dunpar Homes. “It really attests to how engaged our purchasers are and the pride of ownership they have with their homes.”
