The room was abuzz with excitement at the Shaw Centre on the evening of Saturday, Oct. 19 for the Greater Ottawa Home Builders’ Association (GOHBA) Housing Design Awards. Approximately 550 industry insiders, sponsors and friends dressed in their finest to celebrate the best in the industry. In its 36th year, the annual awards competition recognizes excellence in design and quality of construction in the new-home and renovation industries. Judges consist of Home Builder Association members from across Canada and may include builders, renovators, architects, planners, educators, interior designers and anyone else considered by the Housing Design Awards Committee. Up to five finalists were selected in each of 51 categories.

Linda Oliveri Blanchard from Enercare, presenting sponsor and chair of the Housing Design Awards Committee, gave an opening speech, leading into comedian and MC for the night, James Cunningham, who kept the audience smiling in between the presentation of the awards. Described as a “smooth, well-organized event” by one participant, once the winners were announced, there was plenty of time to mingle and dance at the post-gala reception. “It was a wonderful annual event that brought together everyone in the Housing Industry to celebrate the best in design and innovation. We couldn’t do what we do without the generous support of our members and all the time they contribute to making this event a success year after year,” said Erin Bellwood, event manager at GOHBA.
