Toronto's burgeoning Downtown East area has been abuzz this spring, with new development at every turn in anticipation of the Pan Am/Parapan Am Games this summer. At the heart of the action, the athletic facilities are almost complete and The Canary District, originally planned as an athletes' village for the Games but destined to be one of Toronto's top live-work-play neighbourhoods, is gearing up to welcome its first retail residents that will occupy the 46,000-sq.-ft. ground-floor space of this innovative, pedestrian-friendly, mixed-use community. New Condos at Canary District by Dundee Kilmer will be available for purchase after the games.

Following in the footsteps of the highly successful Distillery District model of mixed-use residential and retail, Canary District developer Dundee Kilmer had a distinct vision for the revival of this rapidly aging downtown enclave. Leading the transformation, the developer teamed up with LiveWorkLearnPlay Inc., an international real estate development and advisory firm specializing in the development of large-scale mixed-use projects and the revitalization of neighbourhoods.

Located along Cherry Street and Bayview Avenue, soon-to-be residents and day-trippers will welcome Dark Horse Espresso Bar, Fuel Plus, OpusGlow Concept Spa, Pizza e Pazzi, Tabule Middle Eastern Cuisine, The Running Room and Think Fitness Studio – "best of the best retail operators," as described by Dundee Kilmer president Jason Lester, which were thoughtfully selected to enhance the healthy lifestyle that will characterize this urban pocket.

“To become part of a community that fosters health and wellness is truly sensational,” said Diana Sideris, Owner, Tabule Restaurant Inc. “Our concept of fresh, casual and healthy dining not only lends to the unique aspect of this area, but will also stand tall with the other amazing retailers that have been invited to be a part of this innovative community. Tabule has always been dedicated to the neighbourhoods it serves and we are excited to expand our footprint and community involvement in the Canary District.”
