A first for Qualico Communities

Qualico Communities becomes the first residential developer to implement a Stormwater Kidney™ system with its just-opened community of Dawson’s Landing in West Chestermere.

A Stormwater Kidney™ system works by cleansing stormwater, circulating the run-off water through spaces with a diverse ecosystem of plants and aquatic creatures so that nutrients contained in stormwater nourish the living organisms.

“Constantly moving water provides unique visual and sound features while keeping the green spaces well irrigated so that the entire environment remains vibrant and resilient even during drought conditions,” says Clark Piechotta, Associate Director of Development with Qualico Communities.

“Qualico Communities is the first residential developer to implement a Stormwater Kidney™ system thus demonstrating a deep commitment to sustainable stormwater management infrastructure that also provides beautiful and engaging natural spaces for residents to explore,” Piechotta says.

“We are really excited about this community. Not only because it is Qualico’s first community in Chestermere but because it will have some interesting elements,” says Thilo Kaufmann General Manager of Acquisitions and Development with Qualico Communities.

“We will be releasing smaller front garage lots by the pond,” he says, a home type that has never been offered in Chestermere before. “These new lots will really compliment the open space network, EcoPark, that is a defining feature for our neighbourhood.”

“It’s exciting to see the community come together,” Piechotta says. “The sidewalks and roads are complete, and streetlights are installed, and the community is open to the public.”

Right now, Piechotta says their focus is on landscaping and community beautification in support of show home openings that are happening later in May. “We will be bringing on 28 front drive move up lots in the Fall– the first of their kind in Chestermere.”

Chestermere has been enjoying strong growth over the past decade, and since becoming a city in 2015, its population has grown more than 30 per cent. Known for the luxury lakeside lifestyle it offers, Chestermere is just 10 minutes from the eastern border of Calgary, and Dawson’s Landing is one of the nearest communities to it.
