Calgary: Hillcrest in Airdrie by Apex Developments

For homebuyers searching in Airdrie, Hillcrest checks a lot of boxes.

In fact, the new neighbourhood located in the southwest corner of the city, on a natural highpoint, has a lot more than just a great view and a signature stone tower community entrance going for it.

“In Hillcrest, buyers will enjoy the feel of an already established community and still have the chance to pick their preferred lot, build the model of their choice and pick out their finishes,” says Morgan Gowland, development coordinator for Apex Developments, developer of the community.

Just as importantly, especially for young families, is Northcott Prairie School, a new K-8 school located within the community slated to open for January 2020. Registration is open now. “The convenience of having a new school within steps from home is hard to beat,” says Gowland.

The community’s location at the southwest corner, off 8 Street and 40 Avenue, provides easy access to Airdrie’s many amenities and offers a quick commute south to Calgary via 8 Street. Cross Iron Mills and Costco are just 10 minutes away without even having to get on the QE II and the airport is a quick 20-minute drive, making it closer than in many Calgary communities.

Designed to preserve the natural topography of the area, Hillcrest offers many outdoor spaces to stay active and connect with neighbours, including two already completed playgrounds for children of various ages and abilities.

The 145-acre community also features a fully landscaped storm pond, a central gazebo area, an extensive pathway system and a tree-planting program, as it’s an important part of the development plan to honour the land that it’s built on, says Gowland.

“These spaces serve as a gathering point for residents to catch up with one another, stay active, and enjoy Airdrie’s fresh air!”

Hillcrest also checks both the quality and affordability boxes at once, with two of the industry’s top builders, Shane Homes and Excel Homes, as exclusive builders in the community’s final phase.

Architectural styling features four traditional forms that reflect the rich colour palette of the prairies and complement the natural landscape of the area, each with unique aesthetic flourishes to infuse a sense of individuality and textural distinction.

Excel is building front-drive garage and laned single-family homes, front-drive garage duplex homes and no-condo-fee townhomes with front-drive garage. Shane is also building both front-drive garage and laned single-family homes, as well as laned duplex homes. Townhomes and duplex homes start from the $290,000s, single-family laned homes from the $340,000s and single-family front-drive garage homes from the $400,000s.

“Build-out is expected in 2020, and with only seven front-drive garage single-family homes remaining, coupled with limited-time developer discounts, buyers who have been eyeing the community should act now,” says Gowland.

The nine showhomes open in Hillcrest are:

  • Four front-drive garage duplex showhomes from Excel Homes (201-213 Hillcrest Road)
  • Two single-family laned showhomes from Shane Homes (204 & 208 Hillcrest Road)
  • Three laned duplex showhomes from Shane Homes (370-382 Hillcrest Road)

Showhomes are open Monday-Thursday, from 2-8 p.m., and weekends from noon to 5 p.m.
