Cultivating Toronto’s original garden suburbs
September 26, 2018
As one of Toronto’s first garden suburbs, Lawrence Park has long been a sought-after enclave of lush residences in the geographic centre of the city.
Since its inception in 1907, the community has seen a bustling metropolis grow up around it, while still maintaining a feeling of peaceful seclusion. With The Winslow, Devron Developments aims to introduce a new breed of housing to the perennial stock of expansive, single family homes. But instead of transforming the local landscape, The Winslow embraces and embodies the history of Lawrence Park. With spacious suites and storied elegance, the intimate building’s 68 residences offer an alluring complement to the single family homes in the area.
Located in the premier garden suburb of Lawrence Park, The Winslow is set to introduce a new housing option to the neighbourhood.
By prioritizing quiet sophistication and immaculate craftsmanship, Devron has set out to define a new quadrant of high-end living in the space between investor grade and ultra-luxury. “To suit the ethos of Lawrence Park, we have developed a housing option with all the style and comfort of a luxury home without the boastful air of ultra-luxury,” says Pouyan Safapour, Chief Operations Officer at Devron Developments. With decades of experience building customized luxury homes in prestigious Toronto neighbourhoods like Lawrence Park, the Devron team is primed to capture this ethos better than anyone.
The Winslow’s contemporary transitional style is a charming dialogue between modern elements like upgraded kitchen fixtures and classic details like traditional moulding. Design ingredients such as high ceilings, open floorplans, and punched out floor-to-ceiling windows offer contemporary functionality with a sense of deep-rooted history.
The interiors showcase true materials, with natural stone counters and engineered wood flooring included as base finish options. Carefully curated colour palettes bring a quiet elegance to every suite, so The Winslow feels like an established home that is always evolving.
“The intimate marble-cloaked lobby was conceived to feel like entering the vestibule of a private home,” says II BY IV DESIGN Partner Dan Menchions. “With consistent design elements carried through the lobby, the suites, and all amenity spaces, these areas are thoughtfully connected. A carefully curated selection of lighting is also employed to effect a range of moods within the amenity spaces, as you would find in a home.”
The Winslow’s quiet sophistication and immaculate craftsmanship will define a new quadrant of high-end living.
The manifold human dynamics of Lawrence Park are expressed within and without.
David Winterton, Associate at ERA Architects, has brought 12 years of rich experience working at Robert A.M. Stern’s architectural firm to The Winslow. Infusing juxtaposing designs from angularity to curvature throughout the building, The Winslow intricately marries both modern and traditional elements. Lush landscaping with refined classical detailing was designed by Janet Rosenberg & Studio to promote the building’s aesthetic connection to its surroundings and present a dignified contribution to the public realm.
The Winslow’s biggest advantage is the size and artistry of its suites, and this alchemy is reflected in its sales approach. Forgoing the layout of a conventional sales centre, the team will operate in a showroom that is dominated by a full replica of the suites. Visitors will review pricing in the living room and sign contracts in the kitchen, while touring a spacethat animates what life at The Winslow will be like. This hyper-realistic approach defines the sales process, which puts the public and future residents first.
Surrounded by lush landscapes,The Winslow embraces and embodies Lawrence Park.
