Get to know the Tri-Cities

It’s rare to find a stretch of cities located so conveniently on nature’s doorstep. Coquitlam and neighbouring cities Port Moody and Port Coquitlam, which make up the Tri-Cities, are rapidly growing. The 2017 census reported a population growth of 9.8 per cent – three percentage points higher than the Metro Vancouver average. Here are some reasons why the Tri-Cities are attracting newcomers.

The Evergreen Line, a Welcome Addition

The Tri-Cities have never been closer thanks to the arrival of the long-awaited Evergreen Line, connecting Coquitlam, Port Moody and Port Coquitlam to downtown Vancouver. There’s also the West Coast Express, which offers consistent commuting options Monday to Friday, most often utilized by people working downtown and living in Coquitlam.

Nature at Your Doorstep

One of the most spectacular things that the Tri-Cities has to offer is the abundant nature that surrounds it. With more than 80 municipal parks and natural areas in Coquitlam alone totalling 2,200 acres, it’s safe to say the outdoors will be your new playground. Places to check out include Town Centre Park (named in 2017 as the greatest public space in Canada by the Canadian Institute of Planners), and Mundy Park’s 400-acre coastal rainforest with 16 km of trails.

In the winter, be sure to check out Lafarge Lake, which, when it’s lit up during the holiday season, is the only free light display available for the public in the Lower Mainland.

Its Own Buzz

Coquitlam grants easy access to amenities, including Coquitlam Centre, reputable schools, as well as arts and culture hubs. In nearby Port Moody, there’s a variety of independent and boutique shops and family restaurants. Brewers Row attracts people from near and far, turning Port Moody into its own craft brewery destination.

Get a New Postal Code

Several new developments are coming to market before the end of the year, including four multi-family projects in Coquitlam. One already released project is Dwell24 by Epix Developments and The Circadian Group. This project boasts 24 spacious move-in ready townhomes that give you easy access to all that the Tri-Cities have to offer, right on the border of Coquitlam and Port Moody.

There’s lots of life happening in the Tri-Cities right now, and with higher purchasing power than in Vancouver proper, now might be the time to scope out the best of what this region has to offer.
