Greystone offers upscale, modern lifestyle in the heart of Cochrane
May 30, 2023
Under the beguiling, blue skies of Cochrane, beside the gently flowing Bow River, surrounded by majestic views of the Rockies, lies Greystone, a new community that promises to put a new, contemporary spin on the Western living.
Developed by Burnswest Properties, Greystone broke ground last year to bring an elevated, modern, family-friendly living in the heart of Cochrane. By taking advantage of its one-of-a-kind location at the bend of the Bow River on the southeast side of Cochrane just outside of its downtown, Greystone offers a fresh new take on the town’s already established countryside living charm.
And the promise is coming to life!
Four new showhomes will be opening over the summer months and a grand opening celebration is slated on September 23, 2023.
Single-family front-drive garage homes, single-family rear drive, and duplex will be among the first homes available from Douglas Homes, Rohit Communities, Prominent Homes, Green Cedar Homes. Vertos condominium townhomes from Ocgrow Communities are also available with showhomes to come later.
Josh Hagen, vice-president of development for Burnswest Properties, says feedback has been very encouraging since the launch last year, as people realize the tremendous potential to live a fulfilling lifestyle in Greystone.
“Our location and vibrant mix of uses makes Greystone the ideal live, work play community,” he tells Calgary New Home + Condo Guide. “We are situated immediately next to downtown Cochrane, wrapped around the south and east by the Bow River and its river pathway system. Greystone is also connected directly with the existing 325,000 square foot Spray Lakes Family Sports Centre which is home to a variety of sporting opportunities and events.”
The homes themselves are reflective of Cochrane’s rich history and growth, he adds. “The homes celebrate the nature surrounding them, and green spaces abound, while stunning floorplans and luxurious finishes include every modern convenience. Likewise, the central setting offers access to new and existing shops and stores, healthcare, and wellness services, and so much more.”
Prominent Homes Area Sales Manager, Jaclyn Rabaaya, says Greystone is perfect for outdoor-minded buyers who love an active lifestyle.
“Greystone is close to the river for walking and being able to utilize the outdoors, the Spray Lakes rec center just next door is a fantastic place for families year-round and really comes to life in the summer with the outdoor water park as well as the large facility for baseball diamonds and pickleball right in the heart of the community,” she says.
Greystone is also set to have a brand new fully loaded commercial center with grocery, pharmacy, liquor store and food options as well right in the community, Rabaaya says. “The physical location is also fantastic as you can avoid much of the traffic that most commuters in and out of Cochrane really don’t like as the unique location gives access to the southeast bridge to Rivercrest and also the ability to come through downtown on the NW side and avoid much of the traffic congestion that builds up.”
Prominent President, Pal Shergill, says they decided to build there for all these reasons. “We really feel that this community is one of the best communities for the town of Cochrane and everyone that is going to live here. We also love the idea of the community being redeveloped from an old gravel and concrete site to becoming something brand new and sustainable for the community, a complete circle of life for this beautiful community.”
Shergill also touts the relative affordability of Cochrane. “Prices are more competitive in Cochrane, and we are able to pass these prices on to our customers where they can save on average 5 to 10 percent lower than the prices we can offer in the city of Calgary.”
Ocgrow Group, which is developing Vertos townhomes in Greystone, couldn’t agree more. “It has the best of both worlds,” says Vertos Sales Manager, Miguel Tumang. “Everything is at your doorstep. Ocgrow decided to build here because of the wonderful lifestyle Cochrane offers already and the huge growth potential here at Greystone and all amenities offered within walking distance to Vertos.”
Hagen says that there is an even brighter future for Cochrane as more investments and businesses open creating a viable employment hub right in town. But the historic Western Heritage town just 20 minutes west of Calgary has not lost its small-town charm nor its pioneering spirit. And its enviable location in the Foothills gives everyone the opportunity to enjoy nature in all its glory.
The local golf course is listed in Alberta’s top ten. Also, paddle boarding and rafting on the river are unique and exciting ways to stay cool during the hot summers, or go swimming and boating in Ghost Lake, which is just 20 minutes west of Cochrane.
Other fun ways to enjoy the warm season are camping and hiking, both of which are available nearby. With public land, backcountry, and serviced recreation areas to choose from, you can plan the exact excursion you’ve been dreaming of.
“You never have to go very far to find nature, adventure, and relaxation, and the options for play are virtually endless for the residents of Greystone,” Hagen says. “Whether it’s an interested in sports, dining, fitness, live music, walks along the river, cycling—you name it. It’s all here and many activities are only a short walk away – not to mention those magnificent Rocky Mountains are just 30 minutes away.”
