Home is where the art is

Gibson Fine Art Gallery and Homes by Avi hosted a special viewing of work by 2019 Dream Home Artist Project winner McKenna Prather on May 30, featuring several pieces representing her work.

McKenna’s art is a unique combination of paint and embroidery, making it a perfect fit in the 2019 Stampede Rotary Dream Home.

The two-storey, 2,455 sq.-ft. home will have a warm and modern farmhouse vibe through the design, finishings and furniture, and will be located in the new community of Walden. Total value of the prize package is $1,066,759, including $100,000 cash. The home is open for viewing July 5-14 on the grounds during the Calgary Stampede.

Inglewood art contest finalists

The three finalists in AVLI on Atlantic’s $40,000 art competition went on display for public feedback May 25 at the AVLI presentation centre at 1201 – 10th Avenue SE. The project asked Alberta artists to submit design concepts to create an artistic legacy for AVLI condominium owners and Inglewood residents to enjoy. Submissions were reviewed by an expert panel composed of artists, architects, and community members and are on display for public input.

The finalists (in no particular order) are as follows:

  1. ‘Close at hand; in your hands’ by Kingmakers Collective – Edric Escalante, Adam Zhu and Elijah Escalante
  2. ‘Materia’ by Cheka Creative Inc. – Sergey Ryutin & Alex Kwong
  3. ‘Migration’ by Rhys Douglas Farrell

AVLI on Atlantic itself is also a work of local public art. From the beginning, developer Brian Kernick engaged local design professionals, the award-winning architects at Sturgess Architecture and Inglewood’s own celebrated interior designer Jerilyn Wright.

Homes at AVLI on Atlantic start in the low $300,000s. Most of AVLI’s floorplans are custom-designed, ranging in size from 545 to 2,200 sq.-ft. The seven-storey development offers a unique mix of one and two-bedroom homes (plus den), including four live-work homes and seven penthouse suites. AVLI on Atlantic’s 65 units are currently 85 per cent sold.

If you’re into lakeside living, but don’t want to live in the city, there’s a new option in the NW corner of Strathmore, a town of just over 13,000 people less than 30 minutes east of Calgary. The community is situated between two golf courses and features 33 acres of water features, including a 16.5-acre recreational lake with a 3.5-acre island. Phase one of the community offers 77 large lots and homes starting in the low $400,000s from Ancora Homes, Character Developments, Gigantelli Homes and Trilogy Homes.
