Found art

This sculpture garden, which was posted as a “where is this?” piece in our last issue, can be viewed behind Bridgepoint Hospital, at 1 Bridgepoint Dr., at Broadview and Gerrard St. E. Although hidden from view, you can walk around the building to check it out for yourself.

Installed in 2015, the 20 life-size sculptures were designed by iconic Canadian artist William Lishman, who passed away in 2017.

The sculptures were a gift to the hospital from the Tauba and Solomon Spiro Foundation and were originally designed in memory of businessman Max Tannenbaum, who built a business empire in steel and construction, and along with his wife Anne, were notable philanthropists in Toronto.

Outdoor public art exists all over the GTA. In the city of Toronto, art installations are often the direct result of the City working with the private sector to secure public art contributions through channels such as development review, official plan amendments and re-zonings.
