Conceived as a new gateway to one of Toronto’s most eclectic and historic neighbourhoods, Junction House, by Slate Asset Management with Globizen provides a new take on the single-family residence—combining spacious suites with a maintenance-free lifestyle and refreshing selection of amenities. A collection of two-storey units is offered alongside generous two-bedroom and three-bedroom suites, placing a building-wide emphasis on livability, lifestyle and variety.

“The building was designed from the inside out,” says Andre D’Elia, Principal at superkül. “We focused on the suites because, ultimately, that is where people are going to live and spend most of their time. We didn’t just design a nine-storey building, we designed 144 homes that occupy the same built form.”

In January, interested purchasers can take in the impeccably crafted presentation centre and model suite inside the former Moss and Lam studio at 2720 Dundas St. West as Slate gears up for its grand opening. The converted space gives visitors a chance to experience Junction House’s sophisticated take on Canadian minimalism first hand.

“One of our inspirations was picking up on Scandinavian and Japanese approaches to minimalism, but through the lens of the Junction neighbourhood. What would that look like? How could we make sure our homegrown spin on minimalism is seen as approachable and in keeping with the neighbourhood?” says Brandon Donnelly, VP of Development for Slate Asset Management.

A fully decorated model suite shows off finishes and a material palette that pulls inspiration directly from the surrounding neighbourhood. Wood flooring pairs beautifully with concrete ceilings and the woodgrain pattern in the custom Italian kitchen cabinetry. The premium kitchen features stainless gas stove and cooktop with a cabinetry-paneled fridge that hides seamlessly in plain sight. The island features a stone countertop – the oversized extension is both a functional work surface and the perfect day-to-day dining area. Geometric patterns in the backsplash are referenced elsewhere throughout the suite – from the floor-to-ceiling bathroom tiles to the angular light fixtures. A large, functional terrace complete with bbq connection connects suites with the city and the street.

“We’re all influenced by trends and lifestyle, but our designs need to stand up against time. How do you produce something that is going to have immediate appeal and provide its own kind of interest, without feeling dated in a few years? The idea was to strip the design back and focus on the essentials, while at the same time incorporating aspects of the area. The suites and common areas will have smooth concrete ceilings and warm touches of wood throughout -- and the lines are clean and open,” explains Founder of Dialogue 38.

Junction House offers one, two, and three-bedroom suites, as well as its signature House Collection, ranging from 500 sq. ft. to over 1,500 sq. ft. with one bedrooms starting from the $500s and two bedrooms starting in the $800s.
