Langley area: Alder at Milner Heights

It’s official. Langley homebuyers have fallen in with Alder at Milner Heights.

And no wonder. The newest neighbourhood in this award-winning master planned community by Vesta Properties, Alder offers four distinctive home types, a tranquil setting that’s still just minutes from the burgeoning amenities of downtown Langley and Willoughby, plus a warm, friendly ambiance.

Life on your own terms

Today, though, I’m here to experience Alder’s two, brand new showhomes. Leah’s already told me the themes and I’m intrigued: “mid-century modern” and “reused/recycled.”

As we step into the '70s-inspired mid-century modern, I hear myself give a sigh of appreciation. The kitchen is massive and flows effortlessly into a sun-drenched, open-concept living room with electric fireplace, turquoise accents and retro-chic dining table set for six – although for a family dinner celebration, it would easily fit eight or more.

I resist an impulse to settle comfortably on the king-sized, white sectional and head for the family room. Here I discover a deck with gas hook-up and plenty of space for outdoor lounging furniture – definitely where you’d find me barbequing most nights and a feature that’s found in every Alder home.

Upstairs, Leah has another surprise — a master suite that feels so spacious it’s like two bedrooms combined. This also where Vesta has intelligently located the washer/dryer – because who wants to be continually running up and down the stairs checking laundry?

For something completely different, Alder’s second display home has the rural charm of reclaimed wood dining room bench, a downright funky black chandelier, plus a cottage-style bookshelf recessed right into the living-room wall. This plan also a ground-level flex room decked out here as a TV/media space but that could easily be an office, gym, or guest bedroom. “We really wanted to showcase some different decorating ideas,” Leah explains. After all, choice is good.
