Lifetime shares its vision for Panda Markham

A community meeting was held last month at the Milliken Mills Community Centre in Markham for Lifetime Developments’ proposed development at Warden and Hwy. 7, close to Downtown Markham. The development, branded Panda Markham, is a visionary 5.8-acre mixed-use plan that will encompass five luxury residential towers, adding 2,206 residential units to this growing, in-demand location. Representatives from Lifetime Developments and the Panda Markham team presented their vision and responded to questions regarding the development proposal. Isa Lee, Councillor Ward 8, City of Markham, was also in attendance to hear the community’s input on the proposal.

According to Lifetime’s principal Brian Brown, “Our proposal will bring new attention to one of the most desirable locations in the Greater Toronto Area. With stunning architecture by world-respected Hariri Pontarini Architects, Panda Markham will be a new landmark adding much-needed new residences to one of Canada’s fastest-growing and most thriving cities.”

The five proposed towers will range from 28 to 48 storeys in height, with terraces of varying lengths and widths adding visual interest by which to scale the building and create a unique silhouette that changes dramatically depending on where the community is viewed from. Panda Markham’s suite mix will range from one-bedroom to three-bedroom designs to accommodate the spectrum of purchasers, including families. Inviting indoor and outdoor amenities will expand their living space. Greenspace between and around the towers, as well as the site’s location overlooking the Rouge River, will ensure that nature is always part of everyday life.

According to David Pontarini, founding partner, Hariri Pontarini Architects, “The Panda Markham team’s shared vision is to offer something outstanding in a location that deserves special treatment. It’s exciting to be working on a community with this enormous scope. The residential towers will set a new standard for contemporary design in the area.”

Panda Markham’s residents will also benefit from easy access to the recently completed York Region Transit/Viva infrastructure improvements, the new Metrolinx Bus Rapid Transit Line along Hwy. 7, plus the expanding highway system including Hwys. 7, 404 and 407. A dedicated bus line runs nearby on Cedarland Drive. According to walkscore.com, Panda Markham’s site is a 12-minute walk to the heart of downtown Markham. In addition, the Unionville GO Station is just 3.2 km away.

“We intend to make the most of the City’s existing infrastructure,” says Kate Cooper, a partner in community planning firm Bousfields Inc. “The property is transit connected and pedestrian friendly, and will bridge Downtown Markham with local businesses. With retail at grade, the five towers will liven up the streetscape and provide tremendous convenience for residents.”

“Markham has so much going for it,” Brown adds. “Its growth has been phenomenal. The City still needs to expand on its unique identity, and we have challenged our architects to design a development with a distinguishing factor, world class character and a vibrant, sustainable and flourishing community. We are hoping that we can do something very special for Markham that people will talk about when discussing this great City.”

Panda Markham is Lifetime Developments’ first development proposal in the City of Markham.
