Settling in Stittsville

Stittsville is one of Ottawa’s fastest growing communities. Currently home to just over 40,000 residents, it’s a quick 23-km commute from downtown Ottawa and a 10-minute drive from the big-box stores of Kanata.

The community has come a long way since it was established in 1866 when 100 villagers shared one general store, and 17 students attended the local school.

Today, Stittsville’s become a very popular place for families to settle thanks to the number of beautifully planned new developments and quality homebuilders in the area.

Families never have to worry about outgrowing this community. With everything from townhomes and semis to single-family homes and stacked townhomes, the variety of housing types continues to attract new residents and makes it easy for established families to move up or down in housing size, depending on their needs.

Residents also benefit from an ever-growing number of shops and services along Stittsville’s main street. And, there’s a mix of top-ranked schools operated by Ottawa’s three regional school boards: Ottawa Catholic School Board; Ottawa-Carleton District School Board, and Centre-East French Catholic School Board.

If you and your family love being outdoors, then look no further than Stittsville. You’ll spot runners, cyclists and walkers all enjoying the extensive trail system, no matter what the season. There’s also a series of snowmobile trails on the outskirts of Stittsville which are groomed by the Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs .

If spending time indoors is more your thing, check out the recently renamed Cardel-Recreation Complex-Goulbourn. It has an arena, pool and gym facilities, and it’s a popular spot year round. Alexander Grove Park community centre is also in the area and has plenty of outdoor playing fields.

During the summer months, golfers can hit the scenic links of the Amberwood Village Golf & Country Club, and there are several other golf courses and recreational facilities in the area.

Other must-have family amenities found in Stittsville include local transit, daycare centres and a Montessori school, the Stittsville branch of the Ottawa public library, medical centres, and an animal hospital.

There’s also excellent hospitals close by, such as Almonte General Hospital and Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO). Both are less than 30 minutes away.

With new and emerging neighbourhoods such as Westwood, and our cover story, EdenWylde, Stittsville’s small community feel continues to make this location a must-visit destination for homeshoppers looking for a place to settle just outside of Ottawa’s city limits.

Check out the latest listings in this issue for Stittsville locations and book an appointment for a virtual tour online. Or, when it’s safe to do so, grab a mask and check out the exciting new model homes which are opening in Stittsville this year. It just might be the place where you find the perfect home.
