Bridgeland has all of the charm of a small town, but it is smack dab next to the downtown core, just separated by the beautiful Bow River. Bridgeland is becoming home to many pop-up art projects such as the Tiny Gallery outside of Bridgeland Market.

The vibe in Bridgeland is 100 per cent local. Surrounded by plenty of family-owned businesses, this neighbourhood revolves around a self-sustaining economy – even the Starbucks feels like a small-town cafe, with friends and families running into each other daily. A very friendly area, don’t be surprised when locals greet you as you walk down First Avenue.

Planes, Trains & Automobiles

Bridgeland is a great neighbourhood to get around by foot, with a great main street (1st Avenue NE) for shopping, dining out and socializing. At the same time, it is quite busy with car traffic as one of the main entryways into the neighbourhood is the busy Edmonton Trail NE. Cyclists are not uncommon Bridgeland, but the steep hills make it a difficult ride for novices.

The Good, the Bad & the Rest

A family-friendly community, Bridgeland has plenty of schools, recreation centres and churches. Located just over the river from the downtown core, Bridgeland has amenities ranging from pharmacies to car washes to keep the residents from having to wander too far. The Calgary Zoo is also close by – meaning visits will be frequent and enjoyable!

Dollars & Sense

Bridgeland is a neighbourhood currently in transition. With a longstanding reputation as a great inner city community, it has also had some troubles with crime in the past due to its proximity to a neglected part of town housing the Calgary Drop-in Centre. Since many families and young professionals have chosen to make this neighbourhood their home, a slight gentrification has taken place.
