NEIGHBOURHOOD

Erindale

Mississauga

Introduction

Defined by its beautiful lake and park, Erindale is found on Saskatoon’s east side. This community is bordered by Arbor Creek to the south, Willowgrove to the east, Forest Grove to the west, and University Heights Square to the north. With the lake at its centre and access to local natural landscapes, this neighbourhood is sure to give you a balance of relaxation and fun.

Lifestyle

Erindale is a quiet and wealthy residential neighbourhood, consisting primarily of large detached homes in addition to several condo buildings. A newer neighbourhood, it has a very suburban feel to it, with homes that feature large yards and streets that are divided into cul-de-sacs, terraces, and crescents. The central park and lake are surrounded by elegant and modern homes that give the area an added feeling of luxury.

The Vibe

While the luxury cars and homes with large-windowed facades create an environment that feels high class, Erindale’s family-friendly streets are often occupied by young teens playing street hockey or children being pushed about in strollers. The lack of commercial development means that the neighbourhood is generally quiet and only occupied by residents.

Meet the Neighbours

Homeowners in Erindale are generally wealthy middle-aged couples. The real estate is too expensive for single-income households, so families are the primary demographic. With two large elementary schools, Egnatoff and Father Robinson, there are plenty of children around in the parks and side streets. Overall, it is certainly an appealing neighbourhood for middle- to high-income families.

In the Area

The only commercial development officially in Erindale is the convenience store, but most people consider University Heights to be an unofficial part of the area because of its walking-distance proximity. Erindale’s two elementary schools, medical clinic, parks, churches, and lake make it a fantastic residential neighbourhood for families despite the lack of retail activity within its borders.

Planes, Trains & Automobiles

While Erindale is pleasant to walk through and features some convenient nearby shopping, it is far enough out of the city centre that you will need your own vehicle. Most of the university-aged young adults in the area catch the bus to get to the campus, but many also have their own cars to get around to other areas of town.

The Good, the Bad & the Rest

As with most neighbourhoods, a positive aspect for some is a negative one for others. Erindale is quiet and attracts the kind of families and adults who enjoy the benefits that come with it. The community is located far away from the city centre and can feel secluded from the rest of the city, but it is only a 15-minute drive from the best of what Saskatoon can offer.

Dollars & Sense

Because of the minimal commercial development in the area, it is difficult to address the cost of day-to-day goods. However, looking at University Heights to determine prices, the area has a wide range from budget fast food to fancier lounges and family restaurants. Real estate in this neighbourhood comes at a high cost – and with a home ownership rate of 95 per cent, renting is not really an option.
