Eric Gould, a 28-year-old construction framer and 22-year-old Jeremy Thibert were both charged with arson, break and enter, conspiracy, and possession incendiary material among other charges. Both men worked as framing contractors on the project and police have determined they were financially motivated to set the building ablaze.

The fire caused an estimated $6 million in total damages. The final stages of construction were nearly complete and out of 70 units in the building, 50 had been sold and owners were set to move in near the end of the summer. Cove Properties began rebuilding immediately.

“It was a difficult time for our management, staff and site personnel, but the professionalism, quality and expertise exhibited by the EPS and EFD made the process much easier,” Clay Hamdon, president of Cove Properties, said in a recent release.

“Edmontonians are fortunate to have such a hard working group of individuals out there protecting our interests and sacrificing their time and energy to make sure the city is a safer place for all of us. We owe them a debt of gratitude.”

Luxury condos at the new Essence at Windermere are now selling at pre-construction pricing and the first building is 70 per cent sold.
