Astounding lifestyle offerings of Southwest Edmonton

The southwest sector of Edmonton can be characterized in a couple of ways – one, as a booming, cosmopolitan mini-city with tons of growth potential, and the other as a nature-connected enclave that offers the peace and tranquility of the quiet countryside.

But what it unquestionably offers is an abundance of opportunities to own a new home. Some of the newest communities with amazing amenities are going up in this sector - new tilled land where families can easily set down roots.

New home models from some of Edmonton’s best-known builders are also available, including from Coventry Homes, which has been one of the most prolific in the sector.

From first-time homebuyers to families and even those looking to downsize and live a life of maintenance-free luxury, Southwest Edmonton appeals to buyers at all lifestyle stages and budgets.

A place to grow

Southwest Edmonton is a sprawling area in the capital region that is characterized by surrounding parks and green space. The new communities of the southwest take up the biggest space in the map sections of this magazine with 38 various residential developments spanning two pages. Every other sector in our Edmonton area maps only has one page, some just half.

This area is comprised of several different neighbourhoods in the city such as Riverbend, Terwillegar Towne and the quickly growing Windermere Area. Within these larger sectors are smaller communities as well, but when combined together they all form what Edmonton residents commonly refer to as the Southwest.

The new suburban communities are providing much of the energy to the sector’s rapid growth, and the easy access to amenities is one of the main reasons for its popularity. Coventry Homes is present in some of the most dynamic, young communities in the area, including Keswick Landing, Brenton at Glenridding, Rivers Edge and Uplands at Riverview.

“The overriding theme in our Southwest Edmonton communities is a perfect blend of modern convenience and natural serenity,” says Tara Van Horn, Director Marketing & Communications at Coventry Homes.

“These neighborhoods offer easy access to amenities, schools, and shopping centers while being surrounded by lush green spaces, parks, and walking trails. It’s all about enjoying a balanced lifestyle where you’re never too far from the hustle and bustle but can easily retreat to nature when you want to unwind.”

A lot to offer

Buyers in Southwest Edmonton can expect a lifestyle that emphasizes comfort, convenience, and connectivity, Van Horn says. “The communities are well-planned, with easy access to major roadways, making commutes a breeze. At the same time, there’s a strong focus on outdoor activities, with plenty of parks, trails, and recreational facilities nearby. It’s a lifestyle where you can enjoy the best of both worlds—urban convenience and natural beauty.”

A few may balk at the thought that these new Southwest Edmonton communities are too far away from the city centre, but Edmonton’s well-developed transportation system makes getting around easier than some may think. Southwest residents have easy access to public transportation, including the ETS and the LRT that connects the area to all other sectors of Edmonton, and the Anthony Henday Drive that encircles the city has made accessibility a breeze. Those living in the southwest actually have an easier time travelling in and out of the city to Calgary or Red Deer via the Queen Elizabeth II Highway.

When it comes to amenities, the energy is palpable in the Southwest, especially along the popular Currents of Windermere commercial centre, where new retail shops, restaurants and services are readily available.

Southwest Edmonton is home to some hidden gems that new residents might not yet know about, Van Horn says. “For dining, locals love indulging at places like Buco Pizzeria & Vino Bar Windermere and Flame and Barrel Restaurant, which offer fantastic cuisine with a focus on fresh, local ingredients.”

The area also boasts great shopping spots, including Currents of Windermere, which has a mix of big-name retailers and unique boutiques. “For nature enthusiasts, Terwillegar Park is a must-visit, offering expansive off-leash areas and beautiful river valley views.”

Homes to fit the Southwest lifestyle

In Southwest Edmonton, Coventry Homes offers a range of home styles, including single-family homes and duplexes. “Our buyers are diverse, from young professionals and growing families to empty nesters looking to downsize. We cater to those who appreciate quality craftsmanship, modern design, and a community-focused lifestyle,” Van Horn says.

Coventry Homes is intent on growing with Southwest Edmonton and have planned several new showhomes set to open in 2025 in both Rivers Edge and Keswick. “Uplands and Rivers Edge all received showhomes in 2022, but with the high demand in the areas, new show homes are being planned for the new year,” she adds.
