Calgary area: Shawnee Park

Nestled along the southern edge of Fish Creek Park in a well-established area of southwest Calgary, Cardel Homes has opened the doors to a fabulous upscale, single-family showhome that is earning rave reviews.

The Meyer, a 2,348-sq.-ft., two-storey showhome, opened in mid-April in Shawnee Park, a community Cardel is developing in the southwest that is surrounded by the mature communities of Shawnee Slopes, Evergreen and Millrise.

“Shawnee Park is a large infill development in a well-established area so buyers can have a brand new home and enjoy all the amenities already in place,” says Jon Mortier, area manager. “It’s within walking distance to the LRT, shopping, Fish Creek Park, and offers established schools, which is just amazing.

“It’s a very prestigious, unique location and the response to the showhome has been overwhelming,” he says. “We had 200 groups come through for our grand opening and since then we’re seeing 20 groups a day during the week and double that on the weekend. It’s really a fantastic response and people love the showhome’s design and how bright it is, and they say it feels much larger than the square footage.”

Entering the home, you’re greeted by an open foyer that provides plenty of room to place a bench or hall table and it’s made bright by several windows. Underfoot, a beautiful wide plank white oak hardwood floor flows throughout the main floor and the nine-ft. ceilings on every floor creates a grand feel.

Venturing further inside, the chef’s kitchen ups the wow factor with an expansive island that looks more like a piece of furniture with quartz countertop and spacious bar seating. The island’s dark tone is a nice contrast to the rest of the kitchen’s custom wood light-toned cabinets that rise to the ceiling. Stainless steel appliances include a gas stove and a microwave that is built into the cabinets that stretch into the walk-through pantry, which ultimately lead to a good-sized mud room off the garage and a convenient half bath at the front of the house.

Adjacent to the kitchen is a large dining nook, while across from the kitchen is a spacious great room that is highlighted by a central fireplace surround in marble tile from floor-to-ceiling and flanked by tall windows.

Upstairs, owner’s will adore their master suite that presents a spacious retreat highlighted by a private balcony, large walk-in closet and luxurious ensuite featuring separate his and her vanities, awesome free-standing tub and over-sized glass shower.

“People really love the private balcony and they can see themselves sitting out there in the evening relaxing with a glass of wine or a coffee,” Mortier says.

Currently, Cardel is building in Phase I and just released 81 lots in Phases 2, 5 and 6 so there are a wide variety of lots to choose from including walkouts and most lots back onto greenspace. “The lots range from 32 to 40 ft. wide, and people can build homes with tandem garages to fit three vehicles or rear attached garages,” Mortier says. “We also can build upwards of 15 different two-storey and bungalow models in Shawnee Park.”
