Completing the vision for Walden

A potential fulfilled is a very rewarding accomplishment, even more so when that success holds true to the original vision. That is just how Genstar Development Company feels as it approaches buildout for one of its most unique developments – Walden.

What started as windswept prairie land in southeast some 15 years ago is now one of the most dynamic and vibrant communities in Calgary that continues to attract new residents with its wide-spanning range of homes for all lifestyles and budgets.

That amazing range of single- and multi-family homes it offers is just one reason for Walden’s continued popularity, as residents have also fallen in love with its abundance of amenities that keeps life in the community humming, and even improved accessibility with the completion of the ring road.

“Walden was launched in 2008 with the vision to provide urban living with a small-town feel,” says Travis Putnam, Development Manager at Genstar. “This was accomplished with a fusion of traditional and modern architectural styles while creating an exciting and compatible environment.”

Today only two phases are left in the over 50-phase community, and the opportunities to own a new home in this one-of-a-kind community is fast running out.

“With only two phases remaining, Walden is largely complete,” Putnam says. “Purchasing a new home in Walden means not being surrounded by construction for years. Residents can take advantage of the three large commercial areas, along with pathways, ponds, playgrounds and more. Multi- and single-family options are still available.”

That its development largely held true to its vision is a testament to the expertise of Genstar Development Company, which has been developing residential communities in Calgary for over 70 years.

Walden was designed in two phases, the first focusing on walkability to services, groceries, cafes, and restaurants, while the second emphasized urban living in a natural environment with pathways, ponds, and standing groves of trees. “You can say that Walden is urban by nature,” Putnam says. With over 50 phases, Walden will have approximately 3500 homes.

New showhomes for front-drive garage homes and townhomes are opening in June from Homes by Avi, Truman Homes and Daytona Homes, and there will be a grand celebration to mark this milestone. There are still a few opportunities to buy amenity lots backing onto pathways, ponds and greenspace, as well as the popular walkout lots.
