Edmonton: Rohit Communities Kolkata showhome

They say it’s what’s inside that counts, and when it comes to a home, it’s both the people and the design that make it come alive. The 2,148-sq.-ft Kolkata by Rohit Communities is brand new to the company’s home lineup in southwest Edmonton’s Glenridding Heights. And while it’s a new design, it feels grown up, like a home built for vibrant families who plan to grow in their homes.

The first thing you feel when you stand at the front foyer is a sense of calm, of nature and warmth, thanks to the ceiling that opens above to the second floor, turquois decor, and the white, rectangular ceramic tiled flooring and ecru walls. To the right of the foyer is one of many closets throughout the home.

As you move along, there is a full bathroom with tasteful granite countertops, high gloss charcoal ceramic backsplash around the sink and the top third of the shower surround, and a full bath with shower. Right outside the bathroom is another large closet for even more storage.

One great feature of the Kolkata is the main floor den. In the showhome, it’s set up as a guest bedroom. There’s enough room for a desk, double bed and dressing area, and the room has two massive closets. This would make a great guest room or in-law suite, especially with the full bath just down the hall.

Just past the den and the stairs the house opens up into a large living room, kitchen and dining room. The living room feels both large and homey, thanks to the dark hardwood flooring, plush furniture, stone-clad fireplace and turquois theme.

The kitchen is open and well thought out. The island has a double sink, built-in dishwasher and plenty of cupboards and drawers. The cream, 42-in. cabinets with crown moulding give the kitchen a modern yet almost French feel. There is a gas range with overhead fan, stainless steel built-in oven and microwave, and a large stainless steel fridge with double freezer drawers.

Just off the kitchen is the dining room, basked in an abundance of natural lighting, with a table set for six. Adjacent to the dining room is a door to a large pressure-treated deck off the dining room at the back of the house, perfect for entertaining or just enjoying quiet time with nature.

Heading off to the second floor, the beige shag carpeted stairs lead you to the bonus room, though in this house it’s more like a second living or family room. It’s large, bright and airy, and it’s vast enough for a desk, couches and a TV. There’s also a balcony overlooking the front door, so you can see who is stopping by from upstairs.

To the left of the great room is the laundry room with front loading washer and dryer and the spacious master suite. This design takes advantage of the area above the garage to give the master suite the space and light it deserves. There are two walk-in closets and an ensuite with a soaker tub, his and her sinks and a glass-surround shower. As in all other bathrooms in the Kolkata, you’ll also find ceramic tile flooring throughout.

To the right of the great room are the second and third bedrooms, a linen closet and another full bathroom. Both bedrooms overlook the backyard and have large windows to welcome the natural light. But the best feature of both rooms? They both have walk-in closets! This is an unusual feature for a home of this size and price point. The full bathroom is an almost exact replica of the bathroom downstairs, including the granite countertop and ceramic tile backsplashes.
