Emerging trends in Edmonton homes in 2022

If the lockdowns of the previous two years taught us anything, it’s that it is better to be stuck indoors in a home that we love. But love, as ever, can be fickle, especially in home design where changing buyer needs dictate demand.

Homebuilders have come up with new, lifestyle-oriented designs that reflect today’s homebuyers’ needs. And most has to do with making the most of available space. Balancing the needs of practicality and style have always been key. And in this new era of home design the flex space reigns.

Working from home increased the need for flex spaces not only in single-family homes where they are expected, but in the multi-family sector as well. But the need to please the senses is still as important and establishing an emotional tie with the homebuyer through stylishly staged showhomes remains key.

Excel Homes

Excel Homes’ success has always been its ability to accommodate the homebuyers’ ever-changing needs, and the past year was no different. What the renowned homebuilder has seen is a growing need for more space, especially among young families.
Excel has come up with inventive solutions that assure more home for the money, including main floor flex room, bonus rooms, third floor lofts, developed basements and more!

“Multigenerational living is also contributing to the demand for more space and for everyone in the home to have their own sanctuary within the home,” says Excel Homes Marketing Manager, Kristina Plank.

She says Excel has also noticed a higher need for comfort. “With families spending more time at home, we have seen a rise in demand for more at home gyms, at-home offices and large master retreats. With the pandemic, homes are becoming the place where we live, work and play.”

She says a majority of their buyers in Edmonton are looking for smaller floorplans and greater affordability. “We have applied these measures to our new models in 2021 in Edmonton such as the Archer Series that range from 1,200 to 1,444 square-feet and start from the high $300’s.”

They offer the benefits of a front-drive garage (FDG) floorplans for a more affordable price. “It’s perfect for first time homebuyer or those who enjoy the perks of FDG homes without requiring the square footage,” she adds.

Plank says developing secondary suites have become important to their buyers for rental income or to accommodate extended family. We are hoping to develop more floorplans that accommodate this upgrade,” she adds.

Coventry Homes

Even the most cynical will believe in love at first sight when they catch a glimpse of Coventry Homes’ latest showhome – the Bianca in West Secord. From its trendy kitchen to its functionally stylish, open concept main floor and the well-appointed bathrooms and bedrooms in the upper floor, the Bianca checks all the boxes of a dream family home.

At 2,012 square-feet, the Bianca showcases a spacious and welcoming home design. The main floor boasts an open concept layout that provides a warm, enticing environment for family and friends to enjoy.

Visitors will find beautiful finishings throughout this home, particularly within the fabulous kitchen! Here a gorgeous quartz countertop island with an extended ledge centres the room, and trendy wood cabinets that create eye-catching contrast within the space. “The kitchen features our coveted Executive Chef Lifestyle Package, and a generously sized walk-through pantry that brings additional convenience to the space,” says Tara Van Horn, Marketing and Design Manager at Coventry Homes.

The showhome opened in June, and feedback has been quite outstanding. The kitchen has particularly been popular. “Many of us are spending more time in the kitchen making the dishes we love and even experimenting with some new ones. So, it’s no wonder that finding a home with a kitchen that feels incredible every time you step into it is becoming increasingly important for many new homebuyers,” she says.

Coventry opened 10 new showhomes through the greater Edmonton area last year.

Cantiro

The convenience of an attached garage home, the curbside charm of a laned home, and the budget-friendly attainability of a starter home – they all come together in Cantiro Homes’ most innovative offering yet: Park View Homes.

Cantiro’s Senior Marketing Manager, Kim Tieu, says Park View homes combine “industry-leading design centered around function, beauty and the unparalleled ability to build value” into every square-inch of the home.

“Our Park View homes are a brand-new home style. They’re not the typical single-family home in a sense that it can’t be easily categorized as either front-attached, nor rear laned home,” she tells Edmonton New Home + Condo Guide.

Park View homes have a park -facing front entrance and a double attached-garage at the back of the home for the utmost convenience, along with three levels of living space. All at an affordable price.
