Etobicoke Waterfront – TO's hottest condo neighbourhood

Condos are booming in Toronto, and nowhere more than at the Park Lawn and Lakeshore area – the Etobicoke Waterfront.

With 24 existing projects and another 13 under construction – and potentially more in the future – it’s clear the Etobicoke Waterfront is one of the city’s hottest condo neighbourhoods.

Location, location, location, right? At the Etobicoke Waterfront, your location is right on Lake Ontario, along the Martin Goodman Trail, with outstanding views of downtown Toronto – close to the Gardiner to commute into the city – the QEW to head west to the suburbs, and with TTC bus and streetcar service at your door.

"It’s the perfect combination of urban and being close to the city, and its ability to bring people to enjoy the waterfront," Paul Golini, vice-president and co-founder, Empire Communities, told YPNextHome.

Others seem to agree. "The area is booming because it's a place a lot of people want to live," condo expert Andrew la Fleur told YPNextHome. "They wouldn't be building these condos and proposing more if this wasn't the case. Long term, the areas is going to be fantastic."

"I love it," says Etobicoke Waterfront condo resident Josephine Burdon. "I love to walk around the area. It’s perfect for walking and jogging and all that stuff."

Empire is one of the more active builders in the area, with three towers completed at its Beyond the Sea project at the northwest corner of Park Lawn and Lakeshore. Now it is building Eau du Soleil – a two-tower condo – one reaching 46 storeys, and the other 66 floors – this will be the tallest tower outside the downtown core.

Monarch Corporation (now part of Mattamy Homes), Graywood Developments, The Onni Group and The Conservatory Group also all have projects underway in Etobicoke Waterfront.

Transitioning this former motel strip didn’t happen overnight. In part two of this story, we’ll look at what it took for Etobicoke Waterfront to get this far, and what the vision is for its future.
