Airdrie today isn’t just Calgary’s little sister city to the north anymore. It has indeed grown to become a teeming urban centre of its own. But despite its big city amenities, it has retained its small town heart. And there are a lot of hidden gems in this city of 68,000 people that shouldn’t be missed. Here’s a little taste of what can be found here that only locals know.

Discover:
Nose Creek Valley Museum
1701 Main St. SW
Its tag line is “Big History, Little Museum” and its true. This unassuming building right on Main Street says it records 2,000 years of history with 20,000 artifacts in 10 exhibits in one little museum.

The Nose Creek Valley Museum was established in 1987 as a permanent, public, not for profit institution. The museum collects meaningful historical objects from the Nose Creek Valley and Airdrie area, from 1780 through to the present.

Shop:
Where On Earth Antique Mall
325 Edmonton Trail S.
The sign in front says “Where On Earth Did You Get That” and this 15,000 square-foot antique mall just off Highway 2 is really just full of surprises. Like most antique stores, Where On Earth trades in nostalgia, but the dizzying array of items to be found here – from French Country elegance, farmhouse chic, to vinyl records, books and pop culture collectibles – makes it a must.

Eat:
Paros on Main
113 Main Street N
For authentic Greek cuisine, you can’t go wrong with Paros On Main. Serving the community of Airdrie for the past 17 years. Their head chef, Mrs. Tzigalanis, is sure to satisfy any craving for Greek dishes with her homemade flavour that brings the Mediterranean to the prairies. The lamb souvlaki we tried was just amazing.
