The northeastern sector of Edmonton is coming out of its shell in a big way. What used to be a more industrial part of the city is now gaining a reputation for the wide range of family-friendly, nature-centric, amenity-rich residential communities that are found in this New Northeast

The northeast now boasts a plethora of varied housing options, tons of recreational activities, and its close proximity to the city center and other parts of Edmonton are some of its best features.

“Northeast Edmonton is growing and becoming increasingly desirable due to its close proximity to Anthony Henday as well as retail and restaurants such as Manning Town Centre and the newly renovated Londonderry Mall,” says Carrington Communities marketing manager, Courtney Provencal.

Carrington offers a couple of condo developments in NE Edmonton – Elements Manning and Northshore - that add to the diverse selection of housing opportunities in the quadrant.

Kimberly Walker, Marketing Manager at Qualico Communities Edmonton agrees, saying the convenience residents get here is just incredible. She says its community of Cy Becker in the norther edge of the quadrant exemplifies the amenity-rich lifestyle available here.

“Cy Becker is ideally located with quick access to Manning Drive and the Henday, which makes getting around the city easy. Along with great access to major roadways there are plenty of commercial amenities at your fingertips. Whether you are looking for restaurants, shopping, banking or groceries, the options around Cy Becker are plenty and convenient,” Walker says.

The borders of the NE Edmonton quadrant are commonly seen as the Yellowhead Trail to the south, the city limits to the north and east, and 97 Street to the west. Our NextHome Northeast Map shows no less than 13 new communities and three major multi-family developments in the vicinity.

Growth in the future is seen, and the relative affordability of homes here will likely make it a certainty.

Provencal says their Elements Manning condos are available from the $150,000s, quite the deal considering its prime location. “Affordability and location are the biggest advantages of this development, being a quick drive or leisurely walk away from major commercial centre is very appealing to many homebuyers,” she tells Edmonton New Home + Condo Guide.

Carrington’s Northshore condos are likewise conveniently located in the heart of north Edmonton’s Lake District, just northeast of 82 Street and 167 Avenue. “This condominium community offers a new wave of living with all the conveniences of the city. Positioned adjacent to an expansive park area, Northshore is just Northwest of Lake Schonsee and combines the comfort and tranquility of subdivision living with the convenience of urban living” Provencal adds.

More than just affordable, Cy Becker offers homes where families can set roots in. This Qualico Communities development is a master-planned community that offers single-family, duplex and townhomes from City Homes, Coventry Homes, Pacesetter Homes, Sterling Homes, StreetSide Development, and Berry Homes.

Cy Becker is conveniently located near major commuter arteries, including Highway 15 and the northern extension of Anthony Henday Drive. But at the center of the community, you’ll find its crown jewel: All Seasons Park. It offers year-round enjoyment with a splash park, skating ribbon and tobogganing hill, in addition to walking trails, scenic ponds, and multiple play spaces, Walker says.

Life is that much easier too, as they are surrounded by amenities including the Manning Town Centre, Clareview Rec Centre as well as Londonderry Leisure Centre. “Clareview LRT access is a short drive away which provides extra transit options for those in need,” she adds.

Besides the big box stores that bring convenience to life, NE Edmonton is also replete with boutique stores and family-owned diners and eateries that bring so much character to the neighbourhood.

A favourite in these parts is Eddie’s Donair on 167 Ave. NW. Their menu is packed with amazing shawarmas, donairs, wraps, and much more all offered at unbeatable prices. Eddie’s Donair take you on an exquisite experience with our offerings that are always rich in flavour, perfect for whole family or ordering late-night food with friends.

There’s also Fuss Cupcakes, Edmonton’s Original Cupcake Bakery! A city favourite for 10 years. Locally owned and 100 per cent nut free. They have cakes, cupcakes and sweet treats, including gluten-free and vegetarian friendly cakes. They are a favourite caterer for birthdays, weddings and corporate events. It has three locations, but the one in the Namao Centre serves the northeast residents.

The new Pieces of Paradise fair trade décor store in Londonderry Mall is also getting positive reviews with its love for Indonesia design. They buy directly from 300 Indonesia artists for the unique handmade pieces that can be seen in the store.

Check out some of these outstanding local stores the next time you visit the NE Edmonton showhomes.
