How to make your kitchen sink work for you

With springtime comes an even greater influx of renovations, and kitchens always seem to be at the top of the list of rooms to get attention.

Kitchen renovations can be stressful, but honestly, the kitchen is really one of my favourite rooms to renovate. There are a multitude of design inspirations, finishes and great products on the market to make organization and workability much simpler. When designing your kitchen, it is important to give attention to the practical aspects of how your space will function, or more specifically, how you will function in your new space.

Entertaining hub

Kitchens, whether small or large, are without a doubt one of the busiest and hardest working rooms in your home. They often need to be multi-functional and easily adapt to day-to-day living, especially given the challenges we have all faced over this last year. However, the kitchen also seems to be the hub of entertaining for our family and friends. If you have a larger space, this is less of an issue; in a smaller footprint, though, we are forced to be more organized, creative and pragmatic.

Several companies over recent years have adapted their product lines to include many wonderful storage and space-saving solutions that are aimed at making our time in the kitchen easier and more efficient. One such manufacturer is Blanco – a leader in the industry, having elevated the standards for sinks, faucets and accessories. The company focuses on the benefits of a simpler lifestyle, not only with their designs, but also by making our time in the kitchen easier and stress-free. Whether it is creating a healthier kitchen environment by promoting good ergonomics or by designing an exclusive line of Silgranit products, Blanco is the cornerstone of a comfortable and well-functioning kitchen.

If you’re unfamiliar with Silgranit, it is a non-porous, smooth stone surface that is highly durable and virtually impervious to scratches, impact, heat and staining. It makes clean up a breeze and is available in an array of natural colours that blend well with so many countertop choices to create a stylish, seamless look in your kitchen.

Integrated accessories

This year, Blanco introduced its newest colour, coal black, which definitely will be a new favourite of mine. As much as I love the wide variety of styles available in both Silgranit and Stainless, what is also a huge benefit is that many of the styles are designed to integrate with accessories such as cutting boards, colanders and rails. The addition of these integrated accessories allows you to create a one-stop “workstation,” making your sink pull double duty to optimize the usability of your kitchen, while in turn maximizing your counterspace.

Designing and renovating a new kitchen is exciting. But no matter how much fun you have pouring over design magazines, planning and selecting finishes and colours, what is truly important is that your investment dollars deliver on functionality and efficiency as well as aesthetics; to create a new and inviting space that works for you and your family for years to come.
