What’s happening We all know we live in the best city in the world, but it gives us extra pride when the rest of the world knows it too. Calgary was ranked third in the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) Global Liveability Index.

Historically, Calgary has always ranked among the Top 10 in this annual survey, but this is its highest ranking so far, as it is tied for third with Zurich, Switzerland. Vienna, Austria, topped the list, followed by Copenhagen, Denmark. Vancouver was ranked fifth.

Cities are rated in six categories, including stability, health care, culture, environment, education and infrastructure. Calgary received top marks for culture, environment and education.

According to the Calgary Economic Development agency, Calgary has one the youngest and third most diverse population in Canada, with more than 120 languages spoken. “Add to this Calgary’s affordable cost of living and vibrant culinary, arts and culture scene, it’s no wonder why the city continues to attract innovators from around the world,” it says.

Greystone is a 150-acre community being developed near the Bow River just off Cochrane’s downtown. It is turning a former rock quarry into a modern, family-oriented community equipped with all the amenities that promise a life of ease.

The community being developed by Burnswest Properties will include diverse home choices, inviting streetscapes, a community plaza and pond, recreational park, walk and cycle paths. The first phase of 129 residential lots, an exciting urban townhome development, a 6-acre grocery anchor site, and a new hotel partner are all planned in the first stage of development this year.

“We’re excited to have an award-winning builder group and commercial partners to have placed their trust in us and are a big part of what will make Greystone special,” says Josh Hagen, vice-president of development for Burnswest Properties.
