Cycling for charity:

The sun shone and the crowd was enthusiastic as more than 150 athletes and more than 4,000 cycling aficionados gathered on June 30 to celebrate an afternoon of two-wheeling prowess and speed. Presented by Concord Pacific, contestants from different age groups competed on a temporary, 800-metre track outside Concord’s presentation centre and head office for cash prizes and accolades. Winning the $5,000 Charity Race was a member of the well-known Glotman•Simpson Cycling Club, a team that has raised millions for the BC Cancer Foundation to help change the outcome of pancreatic cancer. And, during the 20-minute community ride, a tiny tyke of probably no more than three won a round of applause as he pushed his way around under his dad’s watchful eye—proving it’s never too early to hone your cycling skills.

At the Core

As the second largest municipality in the province, Surrey City Centre is fast transforming into Metro Vancouver’s newest downtown, with a number of large-scale projects underway. The newest concrete building coming soon to the downtown hub is Westland Living’s Core, a 49-storey residential tower with 429 homes. Built above an eight-storey commercial podium, seven floors feature more than 150,000 sq. ft. of commercial space. Located steps away from Surrey Central SkyTrain, Core will feature a range of condos, from studios to three-bedrooms, two floors of amenities, as well as 31,000 sq. ft. of ground-level retail units.

The first phase of Crest

The recent grand opening of Epic Homes’ Crest at Kanaka Springs was a resounding success. Just released, Crest is the first phase of the new 70-acre master-planned community surrounded by more than 20 acres of dedicated greenspace and parkland. In Maple Ridge’s burgeoning region, Crest is a collection of freehold single-family homes featuring greenbelt lots, legal suite options and cul-de-sac streets. Crest will have a variety of farmhouse style three-, four- and five-bedroom homes. The Crest Home Store and three fully decorated show homes are now open daily from noon to 5 p.m. Visit KanakaSprings.com.

We all scream for ice cream

More than 200 people attended a summer opening party in West Coquitlam on July 9 at Elmwood. Guests were treated to ice cream cones as they toured the Elmwood sales gallery. People lined up for more than three hours to be the first to purchase in the 38-storey mixed-use tower. Marcon is also offering early purchasers a 15 percent deposit, $2,500 assignment fee, and incentives of up to $10,000 off for the first 100 homes. The sales gallery is open daily from noon to 5 p.m. (closed Fridays), by appointment and located at 103 – 567 Clarke Road in Coquitlam.
