‘Tis the season

Time to get festive, Edmonton. This month, our city is filled with holiday events that will have you feeling jolly. From timeless classics to cheerful displays, get ready to fall-la-la-la-la in love with December.

  1. Alberta Ballet in The Nutcracker
Ignite your holiday spirit with a performance by a cast of more than 120 dancers that bring this classic tale to life. The Nutcracker will transport you to a dream-like world, with enchanting sets and costumes, music by a live orchestra – and the Sugar Plum Fairy, of course. Catch it Dec. 4-8 at the Northern Jubilee Auditorium.
  2. ELF
The Enjoy Centre within St. Albert transforms into a magical winter wonderland for this family-friendly holiday celebration. From now until Jan. 5, 2020, the Enjoy Light Festival features local performers, a festive market, photos with Santa, local food vendors and brilliant light displays (light tunnel included!).
  3. A Christmas Carol
This much-loved Edmonton tradition is getting a fresh adaptation. The Citadel Theatre will be celebrating its 20th anniversary of A Christmas Carol this year with a new production of the heart-warming story based on the novella by Charles Dickens. Check it out between Nov. 30-Dec. 23.
  4. Zoominescence
Hosted by the Valley Zoo Development Society, Zoominescence showcases an imaginative display of light installations within the unique setting of the Edmonton Valley Zoo. Enjoy a skating rink, bonfire, ice slide, fire dancers, and artist installation every weekend from Dec. 6-29.

Griesbach remembers

On Monday, Nov. 11, a Remembrance Day ceremony was held within the Village at Griesbach’s Patricia Park. Hosted by the Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry, the ceremony included a reading of In Flanders Fields, a prayer to the fallen, and a moment of silence. Hundreds attended the public event that honoured the brave men and women who served and continue to serve our country during times of conflict and peacekeeping. The Village at Griesbach was developed on land that is formerly the Canadian Forces Base. The Canada Lands Company has developed the community with a commitment to safeguarding the legacy of the lands. Griesbach features a series of statues, monuments, titled parks and educational displays that recognize Canada’s military heritage. Learn more about the community’s proud legacy at villageatgriesbach.com.
