Nature, Nordic design inspires new Calbridge Homes dream home

If you’re dreaming of homeownership, may as well dream big. And nothing is bigger right now than Calbridge Homes’ latest grand prize show home for the 2021 Hospital Home Lottery.

The over 5,900-square-foot masterpiece will certainly set the bar in the already charming streetscape of Cranston’s Riverstone community in the southeast. It also comes with an expansive 450-square-foot tiered outdoor living space fitted with privacy screens to further enjoy the verdant nature at its backyard.

Valued at $2.6 million, this fantastic four-bedroom, four-and-a-half bathroom, triple garage estate home will undoubtedly spur ticket sales for this charitable institution. But that has ever been the case with each of Calbridge’s grand prize show homes.
Coming up with captivating, unique home designs is a tough challenge though, says Eelco Kleinleugenmors, Architectural Planning & Development director at Calbridge Homes. He should know, as he’s had a hand in designing Calbridge’s grand prize lottery homes over the past several years.

For this year’s grand prize home, he says he took his inspiration from the calm, and lush river valley scenery of Cranston’s Riverstone.

“The design of the home, the layout of the floor plans, was entirely based on building a connection between the living spaces, indoors and outdoors, and the beautiful Bow River valley,” Kleinleugenmors says.

“The vision truly comes to life and discovers its fulfillment on the two-level, covered and screened outdoor space, which the home was designed around. The most special aspect about this home is that it amplifies its surroundings and diverts attention to the natural beauty, rather than the home itself.”

The interior design is inspired by a fresh take on Nordic elements, he adds. “Maintaining clean and contemporary lines complimented with texture and warmth of wood detailing throughout to create a light and cozy living space.”

This distinct look really comes through in the main floor with its high, vaulted ceilings, floor-to-ceiling windows, contemporary, central fireplace and soft colour palette. It’s a terrific spot to entertain guests, with its warm and welcoming character.

The adjacent kitchen is central to the overall design of the home, rightfully so, says Kleinleugenmors, after all it is where the family congregates. The massive centre island with extra open shelving underneath caps off the entire look, melding functionality and style in a glamorous whole.

The elegant bonus room upstairs is designed especially for the enjoyment of the whole family. It comes equipped with everything needs for in-home entertainment, the perfect place to ride out another lockdown if it ever comes.

The luxurious ensuite is every homeowner’s dream. Decked out in black, honeycomb tile flooring, it is a luxurious retreat where one can find respite.

The basement level is just as exquisite with its glorious wet bat and entertainment lounge. This gives the adults the space they need to enjoy the game with buddies with a few drinks, while the kids play their video games in the bonus room upstairs.

Kleinleugenmors says the ultimate goal of any grand prize showhome is for people to see themselves living in it. “I think we were able to accomplish a home that everybody can picture themselves living in.” he says. “Sometimes, in trying to come up with a design that makes the home stand out, the home can feel impractical for everyday life. But this one has the ‘wow factor’ and the functionality that makes it a home everyone can fall in love with.”

And fall in love they likely will, especially when they learn that the grand prize home comes fully furnished with everything you see in it, plus $ 250,000 in cash. It is one of the over 2,500 prizes, including an $8000,000 luxury Canmore condo early bird prize.

Calbridge has always taken pride in its involvement in this yearly labour-of-love endeavour, but it has also helped this renowned builder in shaping their own core business, resulting in better designed homes.

“Building lottery homes has certainly given Calbridge a brand awareness when it comes to our commitment to intentional and purposeful design, attention to detail, craftsmanship and quality that is represented throughout our homes at all price points,” Kleinleugenmors says. “Having the opportunity to marry our passion of building homes with this exceptional cause is truly a privilege.”

Tickets for the Hospital Home Lottery are being sold online at calgaryhospitalhomelottery.com, interested parties can also visit the showhome at 252 Cranbrook Point SE, Calgary when it opens in September.
