A second Costco is to open in eastern Saskatoon's Rosewood area at a new Saskatoon retail complex development. The 420-acre commercial and residential development will be known as The Meadow Market, and will have assigned access just off Zimmerman Road, with connections north into the eastern and central neighbourhoods of the city.

Retailers will include fashion outlets, outdoor sporting goods stores, grocery stores, and coffee shops.

Saskatoon-New-Retail-Complex-hero-500x316Jeff Drexel, the CEO of Arbutus Properties – the company behind the development – told CTV News Saskatoon that, “We think it's going to be great for the city and everyone in Saskatoon.”

Drexel said negotiations to secure Costco as a tenant took some time and were difficult, but that he was delighted about the announcement. In early negotiations, Arbutus had indicated that it was unlikely that a second Costco would be attracted to the city.

Construction of The Meadows Market is tipped to start this summer. Works on the Costco at the new Saskatoon retail complex will begin first with the remainder of the retail development being phased over the next three years.

In addition to the retail complex, Arbutus announced the development of a residential community nearby. The Meadows is set to include more than 2,200 homes with 65 acres of parks, ponds, and pathways. A town centre is planned with a mix of restaurants, amenities, baseball diamonds, soccer fields, recreational facilities, and schools in addition to the retail outlets at Market Meadows. The housing mix in the community will include townhouses, laneway homes, single-family dwellings, and high-end luxury bungalows.

In September 2015, Arbutus announced the completion of the first phase of townhouses. Three-bedroom homes featuring 1,200 sq. ft. of living space have a starting price of $319,900.

Arbutus have built in Vancouver, Calgary, Saskatoon, Fort McMurray, Fernie, Vernon, and Whistler. Properties include single- and multi-family residences, light commercial, mixed-use properties, and hotels.
