Podium Developments and Building Capital’s University Studios is a recently completed development in Ontario’s newest and most popular asset class, student housing. The new building in Oshawa is an eight-storey mixed-use residence with three ground floor amenities – Starbucks, Dominos and Osmows – as well as 308 studio units and related indoor and outdoor amenity spaces.
Located 45 minutes away from Toronto near Oshawa’s Durham College and the University of Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT), Toronto-based Podium Developments and Markham-based Building Capital, as partners, recently celebrated the grand opening of the project, which is aptly named University Studios.
The most unique element of the development are the units, known as SmartStudios, the culmination of big-city thinking into a small space; all the modern conveniences supplied furnished in a tight package under 300 sq. ft. SmartStudios include a three-piece modern bathroom, washer/ dryer, storage area, kitchenette with microwave, stovetop, dishwasher and fridge, study area, lounging area with extra storage underneath, and a military-grade table-bed combined with a four-seat dining table to enhance space-economy.
Ground-floor amenities include a lobby/social lounge, executive concierge, four meeting rooms, a fitness facility, management office, parcel lockers, multi-functional amenity room, outdoor lounge with BBQ and dining area, bicycle parking, student-friendly retail and student-friendly patios.
Located on each residential floor is a social hub that includes a fully-appointed kitchen, dining area and lounge.
