If you’ve walked along Yonge Street just south of Yorkville Avenue recently, you may have noticed a strip of boarded up buildings on the west side of the street. Stretching from 836 to 850 Yonge St., these are the heritage storefronts that will eventually become a part of the much anticipated 1 Yorkville residences by Bazis and Plaza. And while the site may seem to be quiet on the outside, there’s been plenty of action happening inside and to the rear of the buildings.

Over the past several months, the rear portion of the mid-19th century era buildings have been torn down while construction crews have been diligently working on the heritage stabilization of the preserved backsides. The process involved reinforcing, bracing and installing carbon fibre and steel reinforcements to specific areas in preparation for future restoration and the next phase of construction.

Now that the rear of the site is all cleared, crews will soon begin the process of shoring and excavation of the pit. The first 10 metres of the heritage buildings will be fully restored, and will provide ground level retail on the Yonge Street side of the project’s podium.

However, the heritage façades aren’t the only architectural highlight of the development. Soaring 58 storeys high, the Rosario Varacalli-designed tower will feature a dynamic “3D wallpaper” design, consisting of ribbons of faceted metal and steel cladding. The exoskeleton is not only eye-catching, but appears to transform depending on light conditions, shadows and where it’s viewed from.

Inside, the suites at 1 Yorkville are characterized by luxury features, finishes and amenities one would expect from the prestigious address. The open-concept floorplans were designed to maximize the views with expansive floor-to-ceiling windows, nine- and ten-ft. smooth-finished ceilings and large balconies.

Some of the larger suites offer premium kitchens with Sub-Zero and Wolf appliances, large walk-in closets and luxurious ensuites.

Residents of 1 Yorkville will also have access to three levels of luxurious amenities spread across the fourth and fifth floors, and the rooftop. These include a luxurious spa with an outdoor pool, hot tub, hot and cold plunge pools, zen garden and a fully-equipped CrossFit studio. On the rooftop, the large amenity deck, outdoor cinema and fire pit lounge are ideal spots for entertaining, while the sun deck is perfect for rest and relaxation.

A signature concierge service will also be available, offering 24-hour service for dining, theatre or concert reservations, laundry and dry cleaning services, pet care, housekeeping, interior design and more.

Available suites at 1 Yorkville range in size from 451 sq. ft. to more than 1,800 sq. ft.
