NEIGHBOURHOOD

Crescent Heights

Calgary

Introduction

Located between the bustling core of Calgary and the Tran-Canada Highway, Crescent Heights is known for its stunning panoramic view of the Bow River Valley. With downtown to the south and quick access to the rest of Calgary from 16th Avenue, this is a well-situated neighbourhood. In addition, the eclectic mix of shops and restaurants means there’s a little something for everyone.

Lifestyle

Being so close to the scenic valley means the walking paths and Centre Street Bridge that leads into downtown are often busy with runners, cyclists and people out for a stroll with their pets. With ample parks and playgrounds — including the beautiful Rotary Park — families and active individuals make the most of the green space.

The Vibe

As one of Calgary’s oldest neighbourhoods, Crescent Heights is an interesting mix of residential blocks and commercial businesses. Beyond the character homes with the million-dollar view and price tag to match, is a decent assortment of rental apartments, condos, schools and wartime homes that are slowly being converted to in-fills. Centre Street is also home to a wide range of ethnic restaurants, independents stores and a large Asian supermarket.

Meet the Neighbours

With a diverse population of all ages and backgrounds, a variety of different residents live here including, long-time homeowners and families with both young children and teenagers who are attracted to the abundance of elementary and high schools. You'll also find a lot of downtown professionals who enjoy the short commute to work and local business owners.

In the Area

Beyond having access to some of the best outdoor spaces around, it’s just a quick walk or ride to all of the amenities found downtown and along 16th Avenue. The tennis courts, skating rink and dance studio will appeal to active residents, meanwhile the surplus of restaurants located on the main streets makes dining out easy.

Planes, Trains & Automobiles

Close to many of the city’s main arteries, it’s easy to see the appeal of living here. There are roughly 15 bus lines that run on any given day, and cyclists will find it easy to pedal to other quadrants of Calgary. By car, drivers are less than 10 minutes from Deerfoot Trail and Memorial Drive.

The Good, the Bad & the Rest

For the most part, residents of Crescent Heights make an effort to keep up their yards and properties. More than 100 years old, the tree-lined streets, well-maintained parks and charming older homes lend a great deal of charm to the area. By day, the main roads are full of pedestrians and commuters but there isn’t much in the way of nightlife except for restaurants.

Dollars & Sense

Because of its proximity to downtown, housing tends to cost a little more, especially when you factor in the view closer to the river. However, there is still a decent range of rentals that can suit a variety of budgets from apartments for university students to more executive style suites.
