Distillery District

Toronto

Introduction

The continent's best-preserved collection of Victorian Industrial Architecture of post and beam construction is a stunning backdrop for the one-of-a-kind restaurants, galleries, shops and studios of Toronto’s restored Distillery District made up of more than 40 historic buildings covering 13 acres. This was once the number one film location in Canada before becoming a Toronto landmark and home to six residential condos.

Lifestyle

From Day 1, the Distillery District has been known for the art galleries that line its historic brick-paved streets. Artisans, theatres, restaurants, galleries, cafes and boutique retailers call it home and remain focused on arts, culture and entertainment. Their passion speaks volumes and proclaims they love to live, work and play and can do it all, right here.

Dollars & Sense

The Distillery District is notoriously swank with prices and names to match (ie: Beer Boutique = The Beer Store). Custom furnishings and galleries of distinction promote a higher price point for 1:1 creations. By its very nature, one-of-a-kind boutiques command a higher dollar for their higher overhead in this prestigious landmark location. Condo prices are equally precious in this prime location.

The Good, the Bad & the Rest

The Distillery District is a destination on everyone’s list but it is prestigious real estate in a high-demand area. That means shops pay a premium and so will patrons so shopping here isn’t for the faint of heart. Whether you’re window shopping, hobby shopping, or dining, the surroundings make for a pleasant experience. It’s strictly a pedestrian area with parking on the outskirts so be prepared for some walking.

Planes, Trains & Automobiles

Bus service on Parliament and Front Street East are at your doorstep and the King and Queen Street streetcars are nearby. In the near future a direct link to downtown will be available by the Cherry Street LRT line that will loop at Cherry Street and then travel along King Street and into downtown. The Lakeshore LRT will also connect The Distillery to Union Station.

In the Area

Dozens of 25 shops, boutiques and galleries, plus a building of artist’s studios are in residence within these timbered halls. There’s the Sculpture Park and no less than a dozen outdoor patios, music and arts festivals through the year, and a local farmers' market. Performing arts companies stage live theatre productions at various theatre venues within. An 18-acre waterfront park will soon open in the adjacent West Don Lands.

Meet the Neighbours

Artists, performers, the young and trendy, and the established and affluent contribute to the multi-faceted face of the Distillery District. Higher income condo residents blend with gallery owners and shop managers and day-trippers here to explore. Not really a family-centric area, but there are a few outlets for the amusement of families who do live here.

The Vibe

From artist to aficionado, the Distillery District inspires, lures and enthralls; it’s where creative juices flow and people are on the move. For those passing through, shop ‘til you drop just doesn’t happen here – there are plenty of cafes, dining spots, pubs and wine bars to give you respite from a day or afternoon of retail therapy or gallery-hopping.
