Introduction

Dollard-des-Ormeaux, or DDO as it’s often referred to, is a large on-island suburb of Montreal. It is bordered to the north by Pierrefonds-Roxboro. Ville Saint-Laurent borders the municipality to the east. To the south, you’ll find the city of Pointe-Claire, and to the west is Kirkland, with Sainte-Geneviève to the northwest.

Lifestyle

Life in DDO is very suburban, with many family homes, parks centres and schools. Most of the action happens along the two main boulevards: Saint-Jean and Sources, which are where small businesses, shops and restaurants can be found. On any given day, you can find groups of young teenagers roaming the sidewalks on their way to or from school.

The Vibe

The vibe in DDO is very relaxed and suburban. The municipality is family-oriented, boasting parks with playgrounds and fields, schools and a large municipal library and aquatic centre. You’ll find many residents walking in the popular Centennial Park. Life happens along the main streets where the restaurants, salons and shops can be found.

DDO is a very family-oriented community, with over half of all households including children. Most families are of Canadian descent, with many other nationalities starting to settle. While most people report being bilingual, the area is considered to be rather Anglophone. There is also a large Jewish community in the area.

The municipality is rather residential in the middle, with small businesses and amenities on the main boulevard. You’ll find everything from spas to restaurants to bagel shops to large supermarkets along Boulevard Saint-Jean and Sources Boulevard. There are also many parks in the area, most notable is Centennial Park, which is the largest in the city.

DDO is lucky to be located just above the Trans Canada Highway (Highway 40), which runs into Montreal and connects with other western suburbs. Residents also benefit from excellent public transit designed for those commuting to the city to work or study. There are express buses from the Civic Centre and the nearby Fairview Shopping Centre that run to the metro.

While transportation to the city is a breeze, there tends to be quite a bit of traffic along the main roads during rush hour.
